Name changes!!! Are you taking his name?...

kacaldwell, 1 June, 2009 at 16:11 Posted on Planning 0 30

Ok so are you going with tradition and taking your OH's name? And if so what will you be going from and too?

Im going from Kellie-Ann Crawford -----> Kellie-Ann Caldwell

I think it goes ok! similar to my maiden name. What about the rest of you?

Don't get me started on this, I am still undecided with only 3 months to go!

I'm thinking of just having a vote in the church!

I will be, already started practising my new signature (2 years early)! I will be going from an Allan to a Holmes which is fine by me. I can't wait.

My reasons are very vain, his name is just not nice! If it was for a proper 'feminist like' reason then I wouldn't hesitate to keep my name.

He doesn't mind either way, in fact he prefers it if I keep mine. He even agreed any kids can have my name too, but I'm still not sure.

    wss....

fwiw i will be, though it's taken me a long while to decide, especially as i am about to start looking for my first senior managerial role in my sector, and anyone that might remember me, will remember me with my maiden name. so if i apply for jobs in my married name, will people recognise me?

i am still toying with the idea of double-barrelling for work though....

i'm not overly keen on h2b's name either....!!! ?

fwiw i think your h2b is very conciliatory, and actually very gallant to suggest this. you could add your h2bs name as a middle name for your kids? our kids are getting my surname as a middle name, and h2b will take it too, so we all have the same names...

WTS. I will be changing my name though, for me that part of what getting married is all about. I'm quite liking the fact I'll be part of a whole new family ?

I'm taking his name... didn't even question it, which suprises me! He was happy to for me to keep mine though if I wanted to.

I'm not too keen on that idea, but don't really know why. I think I'll stay as my name for work and any other things I want and use his name sparingly, then if I want to use his name more I can whereas if I do take his name it'll be difficult to change back without people thinking I've divorced him!

Gah, in one of these lives I'll have a normal name that isn't shared with a celeb or one that people snigger at!

My OH shall be taking my name.

He has a brother, who will marry, to carry on his families name, but I am the last in my line of the family (and I'm a girl - obviously!) so he suggested taking mine, which I was so overwhelmed with.

I will be taking his name. His surname isn't that great, but then neither is mine right now. My Dad had 2 daughters, but has plenty of nephews to carry on the name. Like others have said. I have never thought of having it any other way, it's traditional.

I took my H's like a shot. Love it!!

Bluewater, why don't you keep your Maiden for work? A lady i work with kept hers because she didn't want people wanting her married name but uses her married for everything else.

Although I'm not overly keen on his name I will be taking it, no question. I want us all to have the same name when we have children.

That is so cool ooh la la, what a great guy - I am taking my H2B name and leaving mine behind - it doesn't sound nice double-barelled with his and no-on can ever spell my surname, I didn't hesitate really. Which is lucky cos he says he would have been upset if I didn't take his name

I am, as it's a very nice name! I think it's quite nice, ooh la la, that your OH offered to take your name so that it will be continued.

One feminist friend said I should keep my own name, to which I retorted that it's my dad's name anyway!!

I will be taking H2Bs name. I do find it very strange the idea of having a different name, mostly because it's quite an unusual surname with strong links to my family's background, and also fits really well with my 1st name, whereas my H2Bs name is quite 'common' to put it bluntly! But like others have said, I can't wait to be 'Mr and Mrs X' and when we have children I'll want us all to have the same name (and double-barrelling/1 as a middle name really doesn't work)

Ooh la la that's a lovely thing for your man to suggest. I don't think I've really thought about the whole lineage thing, but actually I've got 2 brothers to carry on my family name, whereas H2B would be the last one in his family, so it's nice that it 'works' from that angle as well!

Don't think their is one, it's just like a wife taking her husband's name. Or if their is, he'll just do it by deed poll, I suppose?!

Er no... we dont change our name by deed poll. We just provide a marriage certificate to prove we have changed our name.... I think for a male it might be slightly trickier as its not the norm to change to your wifes name???

I'd look into it all before making any decisions..

I will be taking h2b's name, my friends have said that it's very "posh" or something lol

The girl in work that got married 3 weeks ago was "giving off" about her new name, she was A.C. which she said "flowed" together but now it's A. "with this big F that just doesn't work" ?

I am taking his name, but I am not looking forward to it - whenever I have had to give it I have to spell it out so with that and always having to spell my name (Sian) it will be fun lol

I guess I do not have any real attachment to my current surname, despite having had it for the last 29 years.

lol....I can't see it being THAT much of a problem.

But if it is an issue, then he'll just do it by deed poll.
