Karen1980, 6 August, 2009 at 13:07 Posted on Planning 0 13

Hopw do you do it? do you have to do it?

H2B has a complicated suranme thats really annoying to spell!! he doienst want to loose his name but I'd quite like to keep mine for aumber of reasons.

so if I kept my name would I become a Mrs. current surname? or a Ms?

Thanks! this one I have no idea about!

I'm sure Sarah-Kay will be along in a minute too...

I've changed my name to my Husbands surname but kept my surname (its slightly unusual and I'm an only child so stops with me!) as a second middle name. Because of this I have to change my name by deed poll - if I were just switching surnames the marriage certificate would be enough.

    Wish me luck!

oh and in ref to your name....ummm Id prolly call myself MS. If I was keeping my surname. OH wouldnt hear of it though so.......

Mm reading this i could stay a miss current name but be married!?!

That might save all the hassle of passport changes as i only renewed last year...

I was just wondering abut this earlier... Passport it shouldn't matter as marital status and title aren't on their. But what about banks? If you change from Miss to Mrs surely they would need to change your account... but then some people just become Ms and don't get married or anything so maybe they don't need documentation...

    Here I am!

I'm also doing this. I am going to be Mrs. MaidenName, it's up to you if you are Mrs or Ms. You don't need to change anything by deed poll, unless you are changing other aspects of your name (i.e. forename or middle name).

You sign the register in your old name.

Passports don't inlcude a title so you save some money there!

Hey maybe when we get our vows renewed i'll change my name by deedpoll in time for my passport! he he

One other question - if you are taking H2B's surname do you still sign the register in your maiden name?

Yes you sign your register in your maiden name.

changing your name on your bank does NOT mean changing your account. I've just been in and changed my name. I'll get a new card and cheque book in the next few days but i can still use my bank card as normal.....account number eyc does not change.

I've popped into employers and given them info as well for my new pay slip but theres still a billion other changes to be made!

Oh and as the passport is vast becoming such a major use of ID these days I wouldnt hang about too long in changing it. I need to produce mine every time I complete a disclosure form for working with kids so it needs to match details..... and no doubt tie up with bank card name should you be travelling abroad and needing ID to exchange cash... just a pain the ass that it costs so much to change it.

I was told at marriage lessons that you sign the register in your new name, not maiden unless you are keeping your maiden. Is this (yet another) Scot/Eng difference?

How odd, I would have thought in terms of any Census you sign in your maiden name, regardless of where u live.......

I signed the register in my maiden name, as that was my name when I got married. I think whoever is giving you lessons has got a little bit muddled.

    I'm in England BTW

It was the church reader who does the admin side of all the weddings at the church. Strange. Oh well, I'll be signing in maiden name anyway.

If I choose to keep my maiden name I dont need to change my passport right?

At a later date if I wish I can do the deed pole and change to surname as a middle name?

Im definitely not giving up my name completely so it seems deedpole will be the only way.

Anyone know how much the passport change costs?

    Thanks for all your help!!

    how
