Naughty Ray!

(Claire), 19 June, 2012 at 14:13 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 9

Just thought I would share with you an incident we had with our 7 month old Shihtzu at the weekend. We went up North for my sisters surprise 30th that I was arranging, so there I was in mid flow blowing up balloons and sticking up banners in the function room when my phone rang, it's mum sounding rather frantic telling me to get home quick because Ray has swallowed a sock! I race home phone my vets that are 200 miles away for them to tell me I have to get him to a vets pronto so they can inject him with a drug that will make him vomit his entire insides up in the hope that the sock will come out otherwise I'm looking at him having an operation! Anyway gets to the vets they tell me that if the drug doesn't work and he doesnt pass the sock in 24 hours, which is highly unlikely given the size of the sock that they would need to operate, I already knew this and I start to panic thinking wtf! The vet gave him the drug and they had to take him in a room and basically watch him for 15 mins whilst he vomited profusely, I waited extremely anxiously in the reception area convinced he wouldn't bring the sock up! Fast forward, vet comes out and tells me it was a success! You can't imagine my relief! It cost me £80 but I was just made up that it was out! So the moral of the story as I know a few of you have recently got pups please keep socks out of their reach, they have a little obession with them but they could end up causing all kinds of problems!

I couldn't get my head around him swallowing a sock of all things! He's only small too! I'm paranoid now, H would normally throw his socks on the floor before getting into bed not anymore! They go straight in the wash basket so I supose something good has come out of it!

Oh deer. We had similar with our dog Conan. But he's a dobermann cross German Shepard Dog.

Hes done it twice, once a full length sock of mine, which he threw up atv3:30 the following morning, and another time one of my pop socks. But that worked its way out the other end!

    They do make you worry!

travel hairdryers to be precise...that we had borrowed from the in laws for honeymoon, chewed it up, in bits of the floor. dog doesnt actually swallow any of these things, just chews it all up..funniest was double sdied tape, everywhere, round her ears,. eyes, mouth. That will teach her!

They don't learn. I took the other sock with me so I could show the vets the size we were talking about, the vet put it on the table and Ray went for that sock! I tend to leave my hairdryer and straightners out he doesn't seem interested in wires or chewing through things, he goes for soft things like slippers, pants, towels. They're mad arent they!

Oh naughty Ray! good job your mum saw him do it and that you acted quick. In work we have seen loads of ops for foreign bodies including a tampon! (eww), some needles and a load of cotton and knickers are almost common! so at least it wasn't anything embarrasing for you ?

He seems more interested in H's boxers! But only because I don't leave my under garments on the bathroom floor!

    Oh naughty poor doggy.

Can you imaging trying to swallow a sock? Then it coming back up again? Holy moly, that'll certainly teach him that socks are not for eating. As long as he's ok that's the main thing.
