neck lumps - anyone had one?

amee, 4 June, 2008 at 21:34 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 8

I know this is a strange thread but earlier on today I felt a strange lump type thing on my neck and its continued to be a right pain (in the neck!!!)

I can't see it when I look in the mirror but when I touch it, which I can't stop doing even though its sore, actually, probably because its sore, it is about the size of a 5p. Its about a finger or two (width) down from my jaw but near my chin.

Any ideas? I don't want to go to the bother of getting a doc appointment for it to be nothing. Always feel guilty that there could be someone more in need of the appts that me.

Probably a swollen gland but I think I'd get it checked out

Yeah Ive got a lump in pretty much the same place. It was very sore when it foist appeared and I went to the doctors. He said it was a cyst and gave me some cream. That was about 8 years ago. Since then it has grown and Ive had it properly checked out and confirmed as a cyst.

I would get it checked out just to be sure though.

    WHazelS.

There's loads of glandy bits around there and I often get them swollen especially if I'm run down.

But usual Hitched rules apply, go to a Doc if you're worried.

I've had similar and it was a swollen gland. Always best to get it checked out by the Doctor though.

sounds like swollen glands to me- personally I'd try soluble asprin for 48 hours before seekign medical attention TBH.

I saw my sister at the weekend and she has lumps all over her neck, behind her ears and all over her head- some the size of golf balls, poor thing. shes been told its part fo her recovery from glandular fever.

It seems to go through stages of growing. It started off pretty small and is probably slightly larger than a pea now but there is a lot of growth udner the skin. I ummed and ahhed about getting it removed, thinking maybe its better to take it off now than when it is bigger so far I haven't got round to getting it cut out but I should do really.

thanks Hyacinth, I shall get onto the aspirin and give that a go.

I hope it doesn't also apply to the start of glandular fever!! Your sister must be feeling so fed up, I have been fed up enough with the one.

I have been burning the candle at both ends recently and under a lot of stress for the last 6 months so I guess I shouldn't really be surprised when things like this appear.

I would BettyB, the small the thing is they have to remove the smaller the scar. Hope you get on ok with it when you do go.
