Need help : Dads 60th Birthday

claires, 15 October, 2008 at 09:57 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 6

Its is in November. My parents are staying at a posh hotel from the thursday till sunday, his birthday is the Friday. Their friends are going on the friday till sunday and then my H and i are joining them on the saturday. We have no idea what to buy him and thats where i need your help. My mum wants to do something special at the hotel but he would hate anything like a cake or balloons, as would i. Budget is about £150. He doesnt have any hobbies, he hates fuss. My mum has bought him a new camera and the friends who are going away with them have got him a flying lesson apparently.

Please help, i dont know where to start.

A voucher for a really nice restaurant?

Something to go with the camera like a docking station/printer/something else?

A day out somewhere like the races?

    A watch?

Does he drink - a nice bottle of his favourite spirit?

For my Mum's 60th we arranged for a local gardener to create a wildflower garden in a section of her garden, and for another birthday we went for afternoon tea at The Lanesborough.

For my stepdad's 60th we got him cricket ticket vouchers.

For my Dad's 60th we bought him a voucher for a canal dinner cruise for 2, with enough on it to cover plenty of wine ?

Are there any 'experiences' he might like? I quite fancy falconry, and OH would like to be a rally driver.

Thanks everyone - he doesnt drink much so thats out. I did think about booking him and my mum a meal at a nice restaurant in London or something but my mum didnt think he would be too keen.

i did think of the experiences thing but again, couldnt find anything he would like

i am making him sound very boring arent i?

For my parents' ruby wedding we (the children) are paying for a photo sitting with us and grandchildren and then buying whatever prints they want. They're not too keen on having their photo taken but secretly quite like the idea! Would that be appropriate?

My father likes snooker so for him tickets to that would be something he'd like. Anything like that you could do? I would love to go to the BlackRock tennis masters at the Albert Hall for example.
