Need help low carbing (not no carbing!)

fatbride, 13 June, 2011 at 11:22 Posted on Beauty & Wellbeing 0 6

Hello all, im getting married on the 1st of october and need some help to drastically shift the poundage!

I have lost about a stone since jan but hoped to have lost atleast 3 by now! Yea right.

Any hoo im going to cut out all major carbs like potatos, bread pasta and rice, and i was wondering if any of you are doing this to lose weight and have you been successfull? and do you have any stratagies for coping with no bread?

I have been a bit of a pig for the last 2 weeks so seriously need to make up for lost time, i have my dress and it fits lovely but i really want to be at the very least another stone down and more toned (going to shred) as i would love to have it taken in!

So any other low carbers out there?

I'm a carbaholic and it is a really important part of a balanced diet. I would suggest rather than cutting out carbs completely, replace them with better ones. Basically swapping all white carbs for their brown/wholegrain equivalent and making sure the bulk of your carbs is eaten during the first meals of the day which will help prevent the 'carb crashes' that lead to binging.
My strategy for coping with no bread is simply not to eat the bad kind and to eat it no later than 4pm. Also, if you feel hungry, drink a pint of water. Most of the time when we think we're hungry we're just dehydrated. If you still feel hungry after 10-15 minutes, then you are. And you should eat before your body goes into starvation mode and holds on to the fat, burning lean muscle in it's place.

Thank you FutureMrsWilson, yes that is the way forward im going (had a major tiger bread binge on sunday) and intend to add some whole grains in im just having a couple of white carb free weeks to kick start the diet and help with the bloatedness.

Good point re not eating them after a certain time in the day. What do you snack on of an evening if you dont mind me asking? as everything i think of has carbs galore!

I try not to snack after my dinner where possible, but if I've done a late workout or feel particularly hungry I'll opt for a fat free yogurt, vegetable sticks or a protein shake. Anything with protein in is good as it'll make you feel fuller longer. I'd also try avoid eating while in front of the telly as it's so easy to get carried away, and if you feel hungry drink a pint of water and see if it makes the feeling go away. And remember carbs aren't the enemy, only the cr*p ones are. Fruits, vegetables and nuts (not peanuts) are fine within a balanced diet. ?

Ah you see my down fall of an evening is feeling hungry but we eat at about 5pm so quite early compared to most, must look for high protien snacks.

The only carbs im cutting down on is the white bread/pasta/pastry/rice etc and as i had a relapse the other day im going to include brown rice and wholemeal bread as i cant live with out them!

Im going to try to go on a run tonight i think after DP is finnished work, as these days/weeks are creeping away from me now.

Hello i thought id put my two penneth in. Im on a low carb diet and find that my evening meal is the easiest to eat. Fill up on fish/chicken/meat, eggs etc and load your plate with veg/salad or both. I rarely get hungry of an evening now but if i have done i will have some sultanas or a bovril drink. Sounds vile, but its a savoury blast to the mouth and warms your tum up and only 7 cals.
