bumblebees666, 21 August, 2011 at 15:05 Posted on Planning 0 7

Hey there!

My name is Beth and i am 24 years old. I got engaged a few weeks ago in london! I am getting married on 27th July 2013! I know i have two years but i like to start early! We have booked out venue for ceremony and reception and we are getting married at the barn at berkeley. im not sure on how to decorate it etc. I have about 1000 ideas a day! I was liking the idea of vintage/shabby chic but was not sure if this would fit the venue?? I would appreciate any ideas and help!!

Just had a quick look at the website, and it looks like shabby chic would work - especially if you went for colours like dusky pink, soft blue or sage green.

You could ask the venue if they have albums of previous weddings - a lot of them do

One of my close friends has her wedding in barn with lots of wooden beams. She has candalaberas as centepieces in cream with cream roses and of course a bit of greenery. Her colour scheme was cream and brown and I have to say it was breath taking. She made (well her dad did) a twig tree which she hung labels from for the table plan. I made her wedding cake wihich was cream , 3 tiers with cream roses. It was so so beautiful.

I will see if i can find a pic to give you an idea . Bear with me x

Hi bumblebee Congratulation on your engagement!! Sorry i don't know your venue but i found this with the 1000+ ideas and what i did was brought a pin board and and put up everything i loved.. ideas.. inspiration and have slowly been taking things off and changing bits.. this has really helped me see what i don't want etc.

Also seeing your venue set up a few time is a great way to help... I've found that things i liked really don't work in our venue from doing this so again help reduce the pin board!! Good luck with the fun x

Your venue looks lovely, you can totally go with a shabby chic theme

ask them if you could come and have a look sometime they have been set up for a wedding and see what they have it set like. or if they have picures of some other weddings they have done.

are they on facebook? I've noticed people "tagging" their hotel in pictures, you might find pics that kind of way!

Thanks with the ideas! Will try and see if i can look at any photo albums they may have. As for colours i would really like red! i know not a summery colour, but i love it! I do love the idea of shabby chic and you are all right with it fitting in with the venue, but i am also torn with the idea of going gothic with wrought iron candelabras, black and red seat covers etc. Me and my fiance are very much into heavy metal \m/ and thought of incorporating that as we both love this! Of course my parents are not so keen on gothic/heavy metal theme! I have made it clear that its our decision! But i always want to please everyone! its one of my biggest faults!! like i said i have so many ideas and i dont know what to go for! i have found recently i have been getting swept up by peoples ideas on both sides and i am feeling rather stressed and its still early days! sorry for having a bit of a rant! please keep sending me ideas its really giving me perspective! Thankyou
