Need help with menu.

Shnarfy1, 20 September, 2010 at 13:29 Posted on Planning 0 9

We are having our reception in a country pub and today my mum rang me to let me know my dad has booked and she now has the menus. In short I am really upset because there is nothing on the menu choices that I would eat. The food sounds fabulous and I know everyone else will enjoy the choices (my parents eat there a lot for big occasions so I'm not worried about the quality of the food at all.)

The problem is, I am extremely fussy when it comes to food. I am pretty much a vegetarian because I hate the texture of meat in my mouth, I do not like fish or seafood, I don't like mushrooms or any vegetables such as marrow, auborgine, courgettes (those kinds of ones.) The starters consist of Soup, prawn cocktail, pate or garlic mushrooms and I don't like any of them, so I think I am going to ask them to add a caramelised red onion and goats cheese tart as I would definitely eat that. I need help with main though, I can't think what to ask for that is vegetarian but doesn't contain mushrooms. Can someone please help me out?

My mind is a complete blank, I think I'm in a state of panic because I can't even think of one thing I would like to eat. We don't eat out at all because it's always embarrassing for me to look at a menu and realise I can't eat anything. I don't know what to do.

I'm a bit like you....I don't eat meat or sea food, or aubergine or courgette!

    how about:

    cheese tart or a quiche

    spinach & ricotta canelloni

was going to add rissoto but they usually use mushrooms or chicken, so that's out

vegetarian lasagne....you can ask them to use carrots, sweetcorn and beans rather than the courgette & aubergine they usually put in them

    chick pea curry

    potato & leek gratin

    leek & feta cheese parcels

    pasta with a tomato sauce

err...will try & think of some more

    HTH

Just out of interest, why are your parents booking the venue?

Shouldn't you have seen the menu and you and your partner discussed this with the venue before the booking?

My Dad booked it because he is in charge of the reception. As I said we are getting married in a country pub, it's a very laidback affair, we didn't have to go in for a tasting or discussion with them. My dad has been to many occasions there and knows the owners well and so the place comes on very good recommendation. We have just been sent the menu now as my dad only booked it yesterday and we have been given the option of changing some of the meals to suit our tastes.

    Ah ok.

Regardless of who is "in charge" of any aspect, I'd have thought bride and groom had final say (and veto) of any options provided to them.

Hopefully you'll be able to come up with some suitable options from them for your special day.
