Need some color scheme inspiration please

Hydeschnucke, 5 December, 2015 at 18:32 Posted on Planning 0 14

Hi everyone,

I've been thinking about color schemes for the wedding and was aiming for something light, elegant, glamorous but romantic. So color wise, for me that translate into creme/ivory, light pink, a bit of yellow or or orange as color touch to make it a bit more exciting and fresh (gonna try to add some inspirational pictures).

Now the problem is that my fiancé's favorite color is blue... How can I incorporate that without it clashing with what I had in mind so that both of us are happy with the result ? Any ideas ?

(A bit less pink, but some more ivory/creme)

We're having similar colours for flowers (blush pinks, nudes) and the bridesmaids and groomsmen will be wearing navy blue. I think it's not too hard to incorporate, unless he actually loves a bright blue which might be a bit more tricky but still possible.

Thanks for the suggestion. I just think that as soon as the bridesmaids etc. wear a blue dress the color scheme automatically changes to blue which is (imo) a very strong color for a spring wedding. But maybe someone else has more ideas ?

I was thinking of just doing blue accents here and there, but not sure how that'd look like. If anyone has any pictures of something similar, I'd love to see them.

If you search pinterest for blue spring weddi.g some lovely pics from men in blue suit and just a touch of blue elsewhere to pale blues etc. You can still have your links etc with the blue as pics will show.

I think it depends how much blue you use. I'm getting married in May (does that count as Spring?!) and my two adult bridesmaids will be wearing navy, my junior bridesmaids will probably be in blush. All of my flowers, button holes and those at the venue will blush as will the ties for the groomsmen.

I was originally going to have my adult bridesmaids in blush too, but one of them looked washed out in it and I thought it would look a bit dull if the flowers and dresses were practically merging. I think the contrast between the navy and blush is gorgeous.

Not putting pressure on, but felt I ought to stick up for my colours! What does your OH think, or does he not really have an opinion?

We're still in a very VERY early planning phase so he doesn't have that much of an opinion (other than saying "blue"). So, I try to come up with something =p.

We're planning on going to the National Wedding Show in February and hope to get more of an idea of what we want as a couple.

Oh and please don't get me wrong, I have nothing against blue dresses...it's just not what I envisioned for *my* (our) wedding. I'm thinking that maybe some pastel blue accents here and there could work, but blue is just such a strong color in any shade, that I fear too much of it will make the wedding a "blue themed one".

Edit: by "blue accents" I mean, for example, blue ribbons, blue flower confetti as part of table decor etc.

Has you OH said he wants to wear blue (e.g. blue cravat or blue waistcoat) or is he happy to wear your colours? My favourite colour is blue but I went for pink for BM dress as I wanted a soft romantic look. It also depends on the venue too.

I think he just wants to have some blue in the theme. No word about what he wants to wear. Since we don't even have a date yet he finds it too early to think about what to wear.

I really love those colours in the photographs, really beautiful

my first thought was navy too and I think if the dresses were quite floaty it wouldn't be too much and would go well with those flowers

brighter blues might be a bit harder but I think you would be able to have flashes of it which might work

might be an odd question but are you thinking sort of silver details with your colours or golds?

If blue is a must ...

If you look at a colour wheel, orange and blue are complementary colours. Lots of pale orange opposing smaller elements of a stronger blue have the potential to look great.

Or lots of blue, but then oranges for the flowers and some detailing should also work.

A 'split complementary' colour scheme could combine for example majority blue bm dresses and men's waistcoats with red-orange and yellow-orange flowers

Incidentally I just tried a Google image search for 'blue pink wedding' and there are many examples combining the two colours.

EDIT: a similar image search for 'blush blue wedding' gives some beautiful images - that's clearly a colour combination that can work incredibly well.

I just saw this; you could go with a wedding in Pantone's colours of the year!

Hey i don't know if this helps but I had a yellow and blue wedding, colours went together better than we thought especially as it was in spring.

Thanks all for your lovely feedback, I will keep it in mind for my research (though blue dresses are just a no go for me).

@Notlongnow: I will probably thinking more silver than gold, as the main color should be something neutral (ivory etc.).

Do you have any photos of the function room at your venue? It's worth taking that into account now.

I photograph weddings occasionally where the couple have "fought" the venue colour scheme, eg choosing cadbury purple in a room that had red & green carpet.

    Hi Paula,

we literally don't have anything yet aside from what I have envisioned over the past few years. We just got engaged and like I said, we really just started to think about how the wedding could be. I do want the ceremony to be in a garden or park, but that's pretty much all I can say at this point.

The picture CalligraphyWithLove posted is great for showing just a hint of blue in an otherwise different color scheme. Thanks for posting it Smiley smile

My colour scheme is pretty much the same as yours: ivory, blush pink and a hint of gold. At one point though I had planned on also including a pastel/cornflower blue in the flowers so I had some really beautiful images pinned including this:

But at no point was I considering blue dresses either. My BMs are in blush and the men are in navy.
