need some help with wording

Mellypoos, 26 August, 2014 at 21:53 Posted on Planning 0 3

Ok, so i finally got OH to sit down and talk wording for the ceremony today (he was a 2 on the helpfulness scale Smiley laugh) as we are in Scotland we have a fair bit of say in the words we want the registrar to use and in particular we wanted to use our own definition of marriage bt i'm not sure how to reword what i'd like into the right format

i would like to use the Dr Suess quote

We’re all a little weird. And life is weird. And when we find someone whose weirdness is compatible with ours, we join up with them and fall into mutually satisfying weirdness—and call it love

i also like one of the options they have given us and thought about using a part of it to make the following - what do you think? does anyone wh is good at this kind of thing think they could reword it better?

Marriage joins two people who trust the love they have found. It is a statement to all those around them, of something the tw of them already know, that we're all a little bit weird and that life is weird. And when we find someone whose weirdness is compatible to ours, we join with them and fall into mutually satisfying weirdness and call it love.

Would there be a problem with part of it being a quote?

Dr Seuss died in 1991 so his works are still in copyright. I don't think your usage will be covered by the fair dealing doctrine so you will probably need permission from the copyright owner for a) use in your wedding b) adapting it by putting it with the other text. Apart from the copyright complication, I like it and think it is great that you have found a definition of love which is personal to you.

    HTH.

I think that because you are using the words of Seuss for personal use and not for public use where you are selling tickets you may find that the copyright law doesn't apply.

What about..... Marriage joins two people who weirdly found love with each other. It is a statement to everyone around them, of what they already both know, that we are all a little weird and life is weird, when we find someone whose weirdness is compatible to our own, we join with them and fall into mutually satisfying weirdness and call it love.

All Ive done is bring the word weird into your first sentence to tie the two elements together.

Yeah, I can't imagine copyright is an issue.

Thanks everyone, i was worried about copyright. i'm going to do a bit of digging about and may just have to reword somewhat. they key things is the weirdness as all the other words/lines etc are just a lttle too mushy for our tastes lol
