Need some reassuring.

Caz79, 9 October, 2008 at 22:20 Posted on Planning 0 20

I get married a week on saturday, which I can not wait for no reassurances needed there. However this morning I fell out of my front door - dont ask me how I have no idea. Well I hurt my ankle but still managed to stand and drive to work. Also it doesn't really hurt, except if I move it in a certain way - then it feels like something is moving out of place. Also it has given way 2 or 3 times on me today. It wasn't really swollen until I took my socks off. Now it is twice the size of my other ankle. I would go down to A and E but h2b is out with work. Just need someone to tell me that it cant be broken otherwise I would be in constant pain with it right?

I would call nhs 24 for advice just in case. if the swelling gets worse, or your ankle gets more painful, i would go to your nearest minor injuries unit. don't ignore it, you don't want to do something worse to it.

hope it gets better very soon!

I think they would probally say go for an xray, which I will do tommorrow anyway if the swelling hasn't gone down. Just trying to reassure myself it isn't broken - can I go on honeymoon if it is? Can you fly with a cast on. I think I will cry a lot if I can not go on my honeymoon.

Thanks for reply - I will probally give them a call. I am probally just being silly anyway.

Hope all is okay - maybe you just tore a tendon - which just require rest and a support but no cast

Can only get there tonight if I drive myself which will be no good if it does end up in a cast. Im probally being dramatic. Off to bed now and will go to A&E first thing. Fingers crossed and good luck vibes most welcome!

Elevate it that will help with the swelling. Follow the RICE procedure and treat it as a sprain until you know otherwise, which is rest initially, ice, compression and elevate. Do you have a tuby grip or bandage you could put on it to help decrease the swelling?

Hope you are ok, and I would def be off to docs at a minimum in the morning xxx

Awww caz poor you. I have had a really off afternoon, and been in floods of tears this evening, thinking I will never be ready in a week, but now reading that has made me think. I am sending loads of good luck vibes your way for A&E in the morning, let us know how you get on as soon as you can. Hope you manage to get some sleep.?

<not a medic> If you're able to put weight on your foot it's unlikely to be broken, my guess is that you've torn some ligaments - i've done this umpteen times now with the same ankle/foot and it is soooo painful. Unfortunately no quick help for ligaments, just needs time to repair. Taking some ibuprofen will help the swelling and give a little pain relief - you can take paracetamol along with ibuprofen I believe, but best ask a professionals advice about that.

I'd phone NHS 24 and take their advice.

You need to go to a+e, there are loads of small bones in the foot and any one of them could be broken and you could still walk around on it. i know its not what you want to hear but the last thing you want is not to be able to dance with your husband on your wedding day, or make it worse if it is broken by walking on it.

get to the hospital, if its just a sprain then fine, have a good week off sick to make sure your fully recovered for your big day x x

Just wondering how you're feeling today?

I'd echo the others and get yourself down to A&E as soon as you can. Better safe than sorry!

WSS, sounds (and have my fingers x'd) like it's a sprain.

Let us know how you get on.

Hey, I did this a few months back, just fell and my ankle swelled up once I'd taken my shoe off. I went to A&E but was told I didn't qualify for an Xray because there was no ferocity to the accident, just a stumble. Was just told to elevate it and use ice, and swelling did go down in a few days xxx

Thank god its not broken! Its badly sprained and I have done some ligament damaged, its the size of a golf ball but im just so happy its not broken. Thanks for all replies. Its funny I gave up karate at the beginning of October so I wouldn't injure myself when really I should have given up leaving the house, lol

I am really pleased for you that its not broken, now your orders,

phone in sick for tomorrow to be able to put it up.

plenty of anti inflammatories ie ibuprofen of volterol, which work great with paracetamol if its still painfull.

cold compress to help draw out any bruising

rest rest rest rest rest rest

deligate any last minute wedding plans to your bridesmaids

    be on hitched 24/7

by saturday you should be fine

    good luck recovering and take care x x x x x x
