Need suggestions for substitute candles...all ideas welcome!!

Mel B, 8 August, 2009 at 16:56 Posted on Planning 0 6

Hi all

I'm getting brain ache now....my venue has said they do not allow tealight candles in the venue coz it's a fire hazard which is fair enough. Thing is I would really like to dress the tables for the evening do with mirrors in the centre with table crystals, petals and sparkly confetti, I know tealights on the mirrors look beautiful but as they won't allow them I was wondering if any of you caould suggest anything similar to tealights but with bulbs...or in fact anything that will create that lovely soft lighting effect on the mirrors? (Hope all that makes sense!) LED spotlight things are too bright and harsh and will be using those to up-light the small boat house which leads into the evening do room.

Cheers in anticipation!!

Well, you can certainly get battery operated candles... they do vary in quality and I can't say from experience that I know what they actually preform like.

You may want to put them inside candle holders/jars just to hid the actual candle and get the lighting effect through, like so -

I'm going for mostly battery ones as I want them all day & night and don't want to assign someone the role of lighting new ones every hour! There are a few cheaper suppliers on eBay as well. I bet the Cox&Cox ones are lush though! I haven't tried any yet - something I need to do!

Our venue wouldn't allow teallights or candles on their own but we were allowed then in a vase/hurricane lamp.. so votives in glasses were fine. Is it worth checking if you are allowed these?
