I helped pull out a family of 3 from a burning car today. They were 3 cars in front waiting to do a right when a car come up & struck the first one in the queue , them. Her car spun around & ended up next to mine

I heard the impact & looked to my right, then saw them. Pulled my car over to the verge ,then slow motion kicked in. I told my 5 yr old to stay in the car with my 2yr old. Got out & went to the car - knew it was not good, but made sure they were talking - then the car caugt fire & bloody hell how quick does it go up. There was me & an another women trying to get them out . I was shouting for help, as we could not lift them out. I knew they had head injuries & possible neck, but I knew they needed to get out.

What keeps going over in my mind was trying to get the girl (14) out of the back - strapped in a small space.

Seemed forever until help arrived, the boy was blue lighted straight away, the girl went in another ambulance & the Mum went in a 3rd. Then I burst into tears, shock I guess, firemen drive me home.

Police are coming to me tonight to let me know how they are.

Please god let them all be OK.

Wowsers that's really something you were able to do there, I'm in awe!

I am sure I saw a documentary not that long ago about surviving a disaster and something like only 1 in 10 of us is able to kick in immediately and respond positively, 1 in 10 sit there and freeze totally and the other 8 out of 10 know they should be doing something but can't seem to move, or move fast enough. It looks like you are one of the 1 in 10 who can step up to a crisis. They will be forever grateful they had their *1 in 10* on hand I am sure.

I'm glad to hear that the family are doing well - I hope you're ok too, it can be quite a crash when the adrenaline rush from helping goes. ?

Ugh, people like that wind me up big time. There was a fire a few weeks ago early in the morning, three people killed (one 19, the other two children) and we had to close off one of the main roads into town. I was stood at one end at the junction with the ring road, and I couldn't believe how awful people were. They could all see there were about 10 ambulances and half a dozen fire engines on the road, but there were a few who were "But I have to get somewhere, it's very important" One guy tried to drive down the bit open just for the ambulances, nearly running me over in the process, and said "I'm a Doctor". I nearly let him throught thinking he was there to help, but then he said, "I need to get to the Hospital, I'm running late". I told him he'd have to take the long route like all the mere mortals. W*nker.
