Need to pick a 2nd charity

Lynseys Designs, 2 April, 2010 at 20:50 Posted on Planning 0 31

I've been through the pages on the initial thread and the suggestions were:

Alzheimers Society x 5

Great Ormond street Childrens Hospital x 2

National Autistic society x 2

Epilepsy Research x 2

Why17 x 2

Some animal charity

Sands

Birthmark Support Group

Chest, Heart and Stroke

Homeless Charity

Someone help me make a decision as I can't!

x

I suggested GOSH but am more than happy for it to be the Alzheimers Society. My Grandad was affected by this - but regardless of this, I think any charity is worthy.

Lynsey, you're a star for organising this.

I thought that when I did the Hitched Awards! I ended up spending about 3 hours writing everyone's votes up after other efforts didn't go to plan!

The top 3 would also be my top 3 for these reasons:

National autistic society - as its a charity that iam currently recieving help and support from for my children, but they dont only support children and their families but adults too, by helping them to find work and accommodation etc.

Alzheimers- like autism, on the outside people may appear 'normal' and its is a disability that is greatly misunderstood but can easily destroy peoples lives and that of their families.

GOSH- I work for the NHS and care for many children who have benefited from their expertise.

Can i just chuck in my pennies worth................... i think its really nice when a smaller charity is helped out, i think the effort is more appreciated and means more to the charity iyswim, all charities are worthy but obv £500 means more to a local small charity than to a very large national charity. So was wondering, maybe not this time round but if it would it be possible to nominate smaller local charities, giving the reason why, then perhaps we can have a vote on who to support.

So having said that i would prefer to support Ealing Support

I think that's a good idea so something we can maybe do for the next Raffle. I've set up one page now and just about to do the other so I'd like to get the raffle kicked off today if you don't mind? If I organise it again next year then I'll set an online survey up with all the nominations and let people vote.

Choosing the charity was really hard because I didn't want anyone to feel because I was organising it I was just choosing the one I preferred. Does that make sense?

I think the Alzheimers Society covers most things especially research which I think is really important as is the cancer research. Lynsey, don't worry - you're doing a great job! Bet you're cursing me now for suggesting this ?

As for the number callers I need you all!!! On the night of the draw I'll ask who is around and then I'll ask people for 3 numbers each. Means everyones get a little part!

I think the raffle should be open for at least a week? Maybe 2 but is that too long?

I think perhaps 2 weeks too as some hitchers don't come on every day and as crafty em says, some may be away for Easter. But I'll go with the flow.
