Negotiating on your dress......Help!

Missusp2b, 9 May, 2012 at 15:01 Posted on Planning 0 6

Afternoon Hitchers! I've found a wedding dress that I absolutely love, I can't stop thinking about it and the way that it made me feel when I had it on (if anyone's interested it's Justin Alexander 8596 ). I've been to other dress shops since I tried it on and no dress can compare to it IMO, it's definitely the one for me.

I've got a second appointment on the 26th May to try it on again and show my Mum and my MOH and I think I'm going to order it then ?

It's right at the top end of my budget and with accessories etc it will probably be more than I had originally wanted to spend. I know that some hitchers have been able to wrangle discounts on their dresses or get a free veil chucked in but my problem is I'm rubbish at haggling and have no idea how to even begin to ask.....

Any advice out there for me? How did any of you ladies negotatiate a deal?

X x

    Where are you based?

My best friend got her dress from Supernova in Datchet near Windsor, and because she decided on it straightaway, they gave her £250 towards any accessories - as you know you want it, you can try it on, 'decide' it's the one and get the free accessories.

I know they stock JA dresses as she tried a couple on but she got a Mark Lesely in the end

Obviously if you live the other end of the country this is a useless piece of info!

I got money off on my BM dresses by simply saying, "Is that the best price you can do it for?" Have a figure in mind and don't be afraid of saying what your budget is and seeing how they respond.

    That's a lovely dress.

I would just be honest. Say how much you love the dress but that it's at the top of your budget so could they include the veil and tiara with the price?

If you are in a position to put the deposit (normally 50%) down there and then, you will be much more likely to succeed.

Thanks for your advice, I think I may have to just get over my fear of haggling/ negotiating whatever you want to call it and just ask!

Worse case scenario I won't get any money off & I'll look like a wally but probably not for the first time in my life lol x

You won't. They'll get asked all the time.

Hello, I had the same problem when i was looking for my dress. Originally i was quoted a price for the dress by the bridal shop owner, i then went onto the designer's website and you can often see their stockists in your area by providing the name of your town or postcode. I contacted a couple of other bridal shops by phone that I knew i got get to easily and cost effectively, i gave them the code of the dress and asked them how much i could buy it for. A couple of phonecalls and prices later i managed to get the same dress (brand new) for £350 less than i was orginally quoted. I went back to the 1st shop to try the dress on, just to make absolute sure it was the one. I told the bridal shop owner that i did a bit of research and could buy the same dress for cheaper at another bridal shop. When i gave the owner the name of the shop and the person i spoke to she knew them well, she matched their price and i left the shop one happy B2B. Thankfully the lady selling me my dress is wonderful. I hope you manage to source your dress for cheaper. Good luck
