Neighbours and noise pollution - HELP

Doodle, 19 April, 2011 at 19:15 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 2

Wonderful ppl of hitched I wonder if you can advise?

Our neighbours who are not particularly friendly towards us are landscape gardnes and seem to have a love of chopping down trees.

They did have some fairly large trees in the garden so I was understanding at first, but every sunday and regualr evenings now we have the very loud sound of a tree muncher and / or a chain saw going for HOURS on end (sometimes the whole day / evening). We don't know if he's bringing it home from work but we suspect they are as they dont have that many trees left in their garden!

A quick peek over the fence shows me they have ear protectors on and its loud in the house despite the fact we are sitting at the opposite end of the house with every door and window shut. There is no way you can sit outside with it.

Between this, the bonfires (despite the fact we live in a 'smoke free zone' as they themselves told us) and their mut of a dog barking at every opportunity I have resorted to loud music but know thats not really a solution. The car wash behind us were prohibited in working hours for much much less noise and intrusion - would I have a case with the council?

They are really not the type of people I could have a word with - they are condescending to a enth degree.

I would say yes, particularly if they are using a domestic residence for work related activity!!!!

Neighbours are so random, either lovely or awful!

I would think you definitely have a case, but depending on what your local council are like it could be very difficult to have them pulled up on it.

Where my parents live, the back of their neighbours garden is adjacent to their house, no more than 15ft away. He used to (and still does) have HUGE bonfires where he would burn tons of stuff like leaves, sofas, the odd tyre?!?!?! Usually in the middle of summer when we'd want all the windows open. The environmental dept never once came down. He often lit them in the evenings or at weekends, the out-of-hours officer wouldn't deem it an emergency, but the general office would only come down if it was going on there and then - which it never was. Very frustrating!

Hopefully things are a bit more sensible in your part of the country, and I hope you can sort something soon!
