Never been in here before- Hiya!

JezVonSavage, 8 May, 2011 at 00:06 Posted on Honeymoons & Getting Married Abroad 0 8

I'm a bit of a regular over in wedding planning, having organised a wedding in Liverpool for August 2012, but today we decided to cancel all of our wedding plans and get married abroad instead. To save our deposits we are still having our UK "do" in the same venue etc but I don't know where to start with getting married aborad.

We are going to go for somewhere in Greece, my first question is: when I see a price in a travel agents wedding brochure, is that just the cost of the weekend and not the cost of flights and accommodation? We only decided this today, I don't know where to start!

    Hi

The wedding brochures that I have looked at in the past have only contained the prices for the actual wedding then you have to refer to the travel agents standard brochures for the price of the holiday which will be in addition to the price in the wedding brochure. Also be careful that a lot of the wedding brochures only list the basic packages and this will not include a meal for your guests etc this will be charged in addition. It may be worth ringing them up to find out exactly what is included and the costs of the enhanced packages.

Where abouts in Greece are you thinking? We are getting married in Zante in 2012 and have found plenty of wedding planners on the internet who are able to organise your wedding (often cheaper) than the tour operators over here and in my opinion have far better knowledge as they live out there.

Thanks for your reply. I think we are going to go with Santorini, and like you said we've found wedding planners based on the island who can offer much better packages. I don't think we are going to be having guests, I think we are eloping haha! We were supposed to have a big white wedding here but it's just all got out of hand, so we are doing a runner.

Whereabouts in Zante? Sounds lovely. I love Zante, it's beautiful.

I'm another Zante Bride! I LOVE ZANTE TOO! We've booked with a planner we found online too. Hopefully we'll be getting married in Alykanas. We're visiting in 4 weeks and meeting our planner. We've got a date, so not long till the venue's confirmed!

(This post was a little self-indulgent and boasty, but I'm so excited!)

    xxx

Oooooo Santorini, I've heard it is absolutely beautiful. Did you see Nice Day for a Greek wedding on Watch a few weeks ago? There were some lovely Santorini weddings on there. I said to my OH a few weeks ago that if it wasn't for my mum we would have eloped too!!

We have hired a family run villa in Amoudi where we will be staying and holding our ceremony and reception and the family are organising the wedding for us. We will probably only have about 15 guests but this is more than enough for us! Roll on September 2012!!

    Good luck with your planning.

Wow, JezVonSavage - good choice. My OH's sister got married there a few years ago. We were both witnesses. It's such a stunning place - don't think you will be disappointed! xxx

I got married in Santorini.....loved every minute of it! Its an amazing location, would recommend it to anyone. Give me a shout if you need any tips!

We booked a wedding planner in Santorini, and booked the wedding seperate - worked out loads cheaper and we had much more control over what we wanted, including the date / time we got married.
