Hello girls,

I have just learned how to post on this site - woohoo!

I am getting married on Dec 18th 2009 and it seems an absolute age away! My h2b has given me the task of attempting a wedding budget - it is soooooooo hard. Any help or advice much appreciated!

Welcome! trust me, the time will fly!! As for budgets it depends on where in the country you are to a large extent! MAke a list of the things you need then have a ring round people near you to get an idea of prices and make your budget from there. Or go for my approach of 'as cheap as possible'!! Our final spend is going to be between £4k-5k. Good luck!

    Hi,

I'd recommend starting to get prices from venues just to give you a guide to go by, they do vary greatly depending on the size, style of venue, type of catering etc. One thing I have learned from Hitched is that it's possible to do a wedding for pretty much any budget!

Have you any idea yet if your parents/family are planning to contribute? And also, it may be worth doing what we did and working out what amount you can afford to spare each month to save for the wedding, and getting a standing order set up to take that amount into a separate 'wedding' account straight after payday. Then if anyone does want to contribute, or you get any unexpected cash, or a work bonus, you can put it straight into that account away from temptation!

Congratulations on your engagement and Welcome to Hitched! ?

Hello and welcome to Hitched. It's a great place to be!

As for budgets, I agree with what the others have said - also have a chat with H2B and talk about what's important to you for your wedding, what you'd like and what you can do without. Things like the number of guests will all affect how much your wedding will cost.

Hi Nessy, welcome to Hitched...won't be long until you are addicted. Everyone is so lovely and you'll pick up so many tips. In terms of budget it can range anything from £3K - £30K. I think the average is about £15K - £20K. As has been suggested, work out what you can save between now and then, what help you might be getting from family etc. The venue and catering is usually a large chunk so maybe start there (as many venues are booked up a year in advance). Hope that helps (HTH).

? Nessy and welcome to Hitched. I'm sure you will find the advice you are looking for here!

As for us we started looking at venues in august last year and already had a date in mind for september 09. We worked out what we could realistically save in that 2 years and looked at venues within that budget (we are are also very lucky to have genourous parents!)

    HTH Sarah xx
