I've been engaged for over a year but very new to all the planning! How lucky are you to have wonderful flower and cake people in your life?!?!

My words of advice, (and being new to this I don't have a lot) is to firstly, decide what your priorities are for the day as a couple - and that way you can allocate your budget accordingly. Secondly, research and lock down a photographer as soon as you can because the good ones get booked up very quickly!

Thanks for the advice, I will definitely take that into consideration. We've talked about this and decided we must be strong and stick to what we want to do! Our families are quite laid back anyway.... So far!!!

Hi Sarah, I'm an essex bride too! We're getting married in May 2014 in a barn called Vaulty Manor but to be honest we have spent more than planned on the venue - barns are a lot more than I thought! But we love it anyway

Wth regards to photography, dj and hair and make up I can tell you who we have booked up recently to give you a place to start your research,

our photography is by Day & Knight Photography for £500

our evening entertainent is an accoustic musician who does slow songs and uptempo and oversees the dj music inbetween his sets, he is called Jamie Mcguire and cost £500 for the whole evening.

My make up and hair is being done by one person as only me and Maid of Honour to do - this was definitely a lot more than I planned to spend but you'd be surprised how much they charge! Her name is Dawn Taylor and it's costing £330 (!) for my hair and airbrush makeup, and hair and make up for MOH and my trial.

Just thought these could point you in a starting direction!

I've been researching things for months and it is crazy how regularly suppliers up their prices - best to get in quicker at the current price than leave until later!
