New 'girl'

aislealtarhymn, 31 March, 2010 at 20:23 Posted on Planning 0 6

Hi everyone, ?

I'm new to Hitched - I'm helping my son and his fiancee with their wedding plans - October next year! All very exciting.

They are not sure whether they are getting married at home (Essex or Dorset - our family are in Essex and hers are in Dorset) or abroad - possibly New York/Las Vegas - they don't want a traditional wedding.

What do you think?

Welcome AAH,, I am partial to Dorset, because that's where I live, LOL. But I am from the US, and have been to Vegas many times, so that is a fun option too. Go for something fun and different, That's something I always encourage my clients to do. Smiley smile

    Hiya ?

How exciting. I'm October next year too. What date are they?

So, when you say 'not traditional' how wacky do you mean? I think the venue is a decision they need to make. A friend of mine got married in Vegas last year and really enjoyed it at the time but had no family around her and she regrets that. However, it may be your son is in a position to take people with him (or he doesn't want them there at all) and so that'd suit them if they wanted something smaller. Difficult to give an opinion on this one.

What about finding a different venue here in the UK?

What other plans have been made so far? Anything or is it early days?

    Hi

Another October 2011 bride to be here.

I suppose they could have the best of both worlds, go abroad to get married and come back and have a big family reception in the UK

Im not wanting to be controversial. but just be very careful and not plan it for them. Have the suggestions ready, but be prepared for them not to like them. MIL2b assisted with picking the mens clothes and i've showed her a couple of wee things - cakes i like and the invites. She knows a wee bit about icing cakes so was talking about royal icing and all. Other than that she hasn't made many suggestions at all. All main decisions have neen made by mu OH and I, and the BM dresses, my dress etc, my mum been involved.

Im not saying to completely take a back seat...but just be prepared for you DIL2b to want to do things with her mum/BMs.

can't really help with the venue I'm afraid - I'm sure your son and fiancee will come to a decision though
