New here...

AmeliaW, 30 July, 2012 at 15:11 Posted on Planning 0 6

Hi everybody. I thought it'd be good to to introduce myself. I'm Amelia - though I go by Amy everyday! I've been engaged to my fiancé since February and tying the knot July next year! Cannot WAIT! Smiley laugh

So far we've booked the church, the reception 'venue' (garden party), got the rings (simple, elegant design and the price was simply fantastic!), florist, sent out STDs and are looking at wedding insurance.

I've held back on looking at dresses and veils straight away purely because I know that I'd just get too caught up in that and would leave other really important things 'til later... which could only lead to trouble! However that is now on the 'to do' list! But I've already hit a problem... my overbearing mum who's a bit of a perfectionist and likes to be in control of all things. I'm worried that she'll just push and push her viewpoint until she gets her own way... Smiley atonished

    Welcome!

Have you booked a photographer yet?

The key with overbearing mothers is to manage her from the start. Take ideas on board but don't let her get her way with everything.

Feel free to use us as a sounding board. We're pretty good with giving an honest opinion and advice where wanted!

    Hi Amy

    Welcome to Hitched.

Btw, I would be quite direct at the start and say something like "mum, please stop being so overbearing, remember this is our day". And then when she forget's in a few weeks time, remind her of her overbearingness.

Not yet, although my FBIL has kindly offered to be photographer (my maternal uncle did the same at my parent's wedding).

Just thought I would check that you have seen relevant FBIL's work and like it. Ideally he will have shot a wedding before.

    Hello Smiley smile

congrats, you are cracking on with your planning!

Dress shopping is next on my list and I am rather worried about it- my mum might be the opposite at yours she can be rather laid back and I am gonna need straight answers on if a look like a fool or not!!

We are going shopping on Weds so i'll soon find out!! eek

Hi Rhys, thanks for your post! Smiley smile

I've seen a fair amount of his work and he's pretty arty and good with an SLR camera. He took more or less all of the photos at his aunt's (re)marriage last month and they were very good.
