New name - exciting or a bit of a pain?

My surname is almost an exact rhyme for my first name, and have always been really annoyed by it (my parents gave me a double barrelled first name but only ever use the first part of it, it's just bad planning on their part really lol) so I was always really looking forward to getting married and no...

My surname is almost an exact rhyme for my first name, and have always been really annoyed by it (my parents gave me a double barrelled first name but only ever use the first part of it, it's just bad planning on their part really lol) so I was always really looking forward to getting married and no longer being a rhyme. However, my new surname will be foreign and I'm now going to have a lifetime of mispronunciation and having to spell it for people.

I'm happy to become Mrs Ron[insert foreign bits] but I feel I'm going from one pain in the bum name to another - I wanted to merge our surnames so we were the Ronson's, nice and simple, but he won't have any of it, he is very proud of his foreign roots.

Anyone else getting a weird name?

Going from an Italian surname (my ex husband's) to a lovely English one. My maiden name is also foreign although surprisingly the first 3 letters of my maiden name and my current surname are the same. But I was sick of spelling it for people in both cases so now it's nice to become Mrs O. Smiley smile

I'm looking forward to it, although, even though my surname is changing, my initial isn't, so I will still be KLR which I'm a little peeved cause years ago I nearly bought a personalised numberplate for my car then thought it a bit daft if I got married and had to change my name!!

    typical!

I'm divorced and I kept my married name, when you're face to face with someone you get 'Is it Miss or Mrs?', I reply 'no it's Ms'to a 'oh ok then', this doesn't bother me too much, what gets me is as soon as I get any post it's always to 'Mr', or a phone call ' can I speak to Mr M please?', 'No sorry there isn't a Mr M', 'Oh I'm ringing for a S M', 'Yeah well that's me but I'm a Ms!'

This obviously isn't going to change when I get married cos my problem is my parents thought it would be funny to give me a name that most people think is a boys name!

    I don't really care what I'm called I'll still be me ?

I'm going from a nice normal Irish surname that's very safe and easy to a surname that sounds like a swear word (...think plural of bulls)!Hmmph!

I do keep threatening to not change it but OH just says "well, if you don't want the same surname as our son". I'm very old fashioned though and wouldn't dream of not changing it really.

He also keeps asking if I've practised my new signature but I haven't yet. I didn't realise until reading this thread that it was bad luck to do so and now I'm glad I haven't!!

I went from Miss S McMxxxxx to Mrs S McIxxxxx so not much change. I do love my married name though, and being Mr and Mrs McIxxxxx. The pain has been changing my name on everything ?

I have a male friend who took his step-father's name and then changed to his mother's maiden name when they divorced and he was 27.

We have the issue at the mo of OH's son. He said in passing something about being double-barrelled with his mum's partner's name. OH was not happy. Can they legally do that without his permission?

I feel funny about losing my surname. I also hate the word 'wife' - it sounds old and dowdy.

Still can't wait to be married though!!

No as long as his name is on his son's birth certificate as his father. They would need his permission to change his name by stat dec.

My OH would be quite upset if I didn't take his name. I'm quite looking forward to it though. He calls me Mrs E already...
