New to Hitched!

Perox, 20 February, 2013 at 11:54 Posted on Planning 0 23

Hi All!

I've recently come across these forums, and they are brilliant - can see I'll be here a lot over the next few months!

We got engaged in September last year, wedding is booked for 12th October 2013 in Hampshire! We've managed to get the church, reception venue and tog sorted - just trying to get all the other bits and bobs done now!

Starting to get excited, but I do have the additional 'fun' of my trying to sort out my hubby to be's visa (he's an Australian) as it's due up in April - once that is (hopefully) sorted, then I can actually just concentrate on the wedding which is all I want to do!!!

Looking forward to reading all the advice on here for the months to come!!

Xx

Oooh, another Hampshire bride! Whereabouts? I'm in Portsmouth.

If you go dress shopping, you HAVE to go to Anya Bridal in Droxford; it's where I got my dress...amazing place! ?

Thank you! I'm hoping it gets sorted swiftly too - wedding is much more exciting!!

Hello fellow Hampshire bride! I'm getting married at the church in my parents village near Basingstoke, and then the reception is in Winchester! Funny you mention that - I'm off for a second viewing of a dress there this weekend, am thinking it might be the one but want a second look! Love it there - they're so lovely!!

Oh, my God- they really are! And the place is GORGEOUS- I asked if I should take my shoes off before walking on their lovely cream carpet; they looked at me like I was mental...

I found my dress there- I'd only been to about 2 or 3 places and tried on all sorts (didn't know what I wanted) then tried on the Romantica Bali (tea length) dress and that was it...BANG! I thought it would be really pricey because all of the dresses are so gorgeous, but I actually ended up spending £250 under budget. Win!

What are you planning on going for, or do you not want to say...? ?

Winchester is a lovely place in general, but I would imagine there's stacks of amazing wedding reception venues there too.

I felt the same way with the cream carpets!! I've always harboured a dream of having my own bridal shop, and their's is exactly how I imagined it!

Ooh that dress is beautiful! The one I currently have my eye on is Pronovias Jenny - have tried on a few different dresses, but I always knew what sort of style I wanted from the beginning, so it made choosing a bit easier! Will see how it goes this weekend - going with my mum to get her approval/thoughts!!! Fantastic that yours was under budget as well! This one is too (at the moment!) but still want to add veil/tiara, so may well change....!!!

Winchester is beautiful, we were hoping to have somewhere closer to the church but none around there seemed right to me, and then we went to go see Lainston House Hotel in Winchester and fell in love with it, plus we were lucky enough to get a fantastic deal so seemed like it was meant to be!!

I would have loved to get married at Marwell - I recently did the Giraffe experience which was amazing. Maybe you could book for something like this the day after?

I am Southampton born and bred and slightly sad I'm not getting hitched down there but in Surrey. I miss Hampshire ;(

Best of luck to all new Hitched brides2b - To those who are bogarting this thread, introduce yourselves properly so we can find out about your plans and ask you questions!

Thanks all! Plus, welcome to all other newbies!

RedKitchie - Strangely, I live in Surrey but am getting married in Hampshire!

Will be trying to get some flashes up this weekend (after I've spent the day at the national wedding show, and then tried on my possible dress on Sunday!!)

Hi all, thanks for the warm welcome. My name is Megan, I am getting married in Kent – where i live. The venue is Tudor Park Marriott Hotel.

    Anyone else getting married here?

We are having a small-ish wedding, 50 day guests and 130 in the evening. I am a massive planner so you can imagine I’m loving this. Shame i didn’t realise before just how much everything costs! Looking to keep the costs to a minimum and not get caught up in everything – easier said i know. Looking to plan a traditional type wedding.

Wow, you have your work cut out there. 300 to the evening.

We have cut a lot of people from the day to cut costs. I am slightly nervous what the reaction will be as we both have very big families and have only chosen the people we are close to. So there could be a few moaning posts from me on here. Any advise for dealing with it??
