I am new to the site I got engaged yesterday ? on the beach in Bournemouth we are now back in London and I am very excited I know I need to get started as things get booked up quick but I am not sure where to start any useful advice that people who are a little further along than I am can give me?

    Congratulations!!

    And welcome to Hitched!

Firstly I would sit down and work out what your budget is, then how many guests you want and the type of wedding you want.

Have you thought about a date you'd like? I'd then look at things like venues. You want to book the bigger things first as they're more important and can get booked up more quickly than others. Then look at dresses etc. Obviously the timings depend on when you book your wedding for.

Where are you thinking of getting married?

    Hi all

Thanks for the warm welcome! Pugsley- thanks for your advice, I will sit down and work out a budget, and I have now contacted a venue to look at will look at some others to. I think the biggest cost is going to be feeding people. I'm thinking 2015 as this venue I like is very cheap in that year.

Miss pickle thanks also for the advice I am on the case

Mrs Becki W- I can use a computer but am not good with the spread sheets I am however going to get a folder and might hand write out costs etc or use budget planner on here.

His mum has already asked are we having an engagement party, are we getting married in a church in 1,2 or 3 years time etc... haha

2015 will be a good, gives you plenty of time so you're not stressed.

There are some other 2015 brides on here who've got their own thread and they see how everyone is getting on with planning. Don't be worried if they have planned more than you though, you can plan a wedding in a month or 5 years!

What venues have you looked in to? I bet you're really excited at the moment!! ?. Good thing about Hitched is that you can talk weddings all day and know you're not boring people with it all!!

Congratulations and welcome to Hitched! I'd start with thinking about number of guests and shooting for your venue first, as you'll need a specific date to be able to book things like florists, togs etc.

Thanks for all the warm welcomes!

Ive seen the specific year sections but don't want to right until I def know when it is!

I'm going to look at Smeetham Barn but i'm not sure if it is to far or to expensive. Anyone know a good venue in the east London Essex area??

Our budget is going to be tight I think.

My ring is not from alba rose ive seen there site they have some nice stuff its from Beaverbrooks- White carrot gold I chose it with him a while back but let him chose when to propose.

    thanks all

    Congratulations and welcome to hitched!

    Your ring is beautiful!

Do you have an idea of when you want to tie the knot!?

The first 3 things I did were:

    • Date
    • Venue
    • Guests

    Hi,

thank-you both very much, I'm quickly finding out that to work out a venue we need to work out a guest list to see how much it is all going to cost.

Venues I like one but I think it maybe to expensive but I cant seem to find a cheaper option its all so confusing!

    Thanks for the advice

    Hi,

Yeah Smeetham is £3000 in some months in 2015 I think this is just venue We are on a tight budget really, I plan on doing the bouquet, invites, names card etc myself, Buying a plain cake and decorating it myself I don't want to spend over £500ish on a dress.

I like the idea of a barn venue all the ones ive seen look lovely I might have to look at cheaper options though. We have got roughly 100 guests and we need to work out a budget in the next few days then get a venue then I think I will breathe as I want to get married in 2015.
