NEW WEDDING VENUE LICENSE LAW HELP

ExpensiveOrangeCakes43157, 29 December, 2018 at 13:07 Posted on Planning 0 3

Hi everyone. Me and my H2B have put our wedding plans on hold since we heard in the Budget Talks of new license law changes - (so instead of having to have a perm roof to gain a license you will be able to get married anywhere - even your back garden!) We are hoping this will bring down prices of current venues as it will be very competitive, and new unusual venues will pop up everywhere ( I really desperately want something industrial but local). We are eager to get started in planning but obv this is the main thing to hold us back. I keep googling to see if the gov have set a date or any progress on this law but i can't find anything. Does any one have any info or advice of anything they've seen or heard at all?

Thank you x

There are no firm decisions yet - were hoping too as we’d like a humanist wedding to be official rather than having to have a registrar too. I’m not sure how many additional venues there really will be. In Yorkshire there are quite a lot of industrial venues. Not sure where you’re based but definitely lots of options worth researching

I would not hold any plans as this has been going on for around 10 years. And I think it would still have to be carried out by an official registrar. From what I understand the change muted would be that the registrar is " sanctioned" and not the place. As now the first few lines of the civil wedding ceremony read "this place in which we are met has been duly sanctioned by law".

It may not mean costs will go down. I would of thought that if you want to get married in your own home for example, then a paid for inspection would be needed first, health and safety, numbers of people, fire escape, just like they do now before they register (sanction) a venue - not even a venue because at the moment it is a single room.

It may not even go that far, it could just be restricted to already established venues who already have the necessary infrastructure/fire certificates, this would include pubs, public places etc who do not yet hold weddings. It could just mean that you don't have to have the permanent roof so you would be free to do it anywhere in the grounds.

Another cost consideration is how much extra a registrar would be charging to conduct the ceremony in a remote countryside location. At the moment you have one registrar conducting the service and separately you have another one doing the paperwork.

Currerntly it's just an opinion piece by the governent.

It's not law, will take time to implement and no venues will pop up until it's in place. You'll save very little if any money as most decent venues are well established.

If anything prices could plateua, but it's unlikely they will go down.

I think this sounds like a wonderful idea, my fiance and I have always dreamed of marrying in a dockyard! However, I would not base any plans on this as it was just a suggested change in law, it could take years before anything is actually passed into law.

I totally agree about the price and competitive nature of wedding venues. But believe me, if you can't find anything really local for the right price, go a little further afield! Maybe just the next county over but your friends and family will travel to celebrate with you.

    Good luck!
