New York Hotel recommendations please!

Houdini, 24 August, 2010 at 16:30 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 14

These ones have made my shortlist for our long weekend visit in November, has anyone ever stayed in any of them or have any further recommendations please?

Kitano NY Hotel

Doubletree Metropolitan

Sheraton Brooklyn

World Center Hotel

Desmond Tutu Center

We're looking at going 25 - 28 November with a total budget of £1,400 but preferably lower.

TIA!

Haven't stayed in any of these but TAKE MEEEEEEEEEE! We stayed in The Edison just off Times Square - art deco hotel. But The W hotel just next to it looked awesome. Who are you booking through Rae? If you bank with Lloyds you can book through them to save 10% on any quotes you get x x

I'm sooo jealous. We stayed at the Amsterdam which was a fab base right off Broadway but you have a much better budget than we did so don't go there heh

Is it creepy / weird to stay in the World Center Hotel which overlooks Ground Zero?

It looks like a really nice hotel and I think I would 'like' to get the view of GZ - like not being the right word but it's living history, does that make sense? Or is it just morbid?

    Hi

I went to NY in May and we stayed in the Roosevelt hotel. I would recommend this hotel 100% for location as its just of Maddison and 45th Street… which is a 10 min stroll to either times square or central park.

I personally wouldn’t want to stay down by Ground Zero not because its morbid or creepy but there is so much building work going on by there that it doesn’t make for great views etc.

Wherever you do end up booking another piece of advice is to request a room on a high floor; 1 for the views and 2 because NY taxi’s beep for the sake of beeping all night long!

It’s the most amazing city though so I’m sure you’ll have a great time.

This is the one I stayed in with my sister, it was an ideal location for us and we could see the Empire state building from our room.

We walked out of the main entrance and Madison Square gardens was in front of us, subway to the right and then Macey's with a 5 to 10 minute walk to your right and you were in time square.

We booked it via Going Places, but one of the guys I worked with booked the same hotel via the net

Brilliant, thanks all. Adding these all on to a list and popping into a travel agents at the weekend too for any more ideas.

I'm so excited to be going, just not looking forward to the flights!

Not stayed in any of these hotels but we stayed at the 30 30 hotel. Not lavish at all but it's clean etc. It is in an AMAZING location, literally 5 minutes walk from Empire State Building.
