New York Visa Question

leni, 17 August, 2009 at 14:08 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 6

We go to New York in December and our travel agent has told us we need a visa to enter the USA. But when we have looked online is says we can use a Visitors Waver Visa, we mentioned this the Travel Agent but they said we are wrong.

We are going for 6 nights, can anyone shed any light on it and show us where the visa form is that we have to complete?

You used to be able to use the visa waver which completed on the plane but I think that has now been changed. Try this link

Here is the link to the US embassy website, if you meet all of the criteria, you can stiil use the visa waiver program.

If you can travel under the Visa Waver Program you now need to also apply to a Electronic Travel Authorisation - ESTA. You can do it online free of charge using the US Embassys website https://uk.usembassy.gov/cons_new/visa/niv/esta.html

FYI even though you have to do the online thing, the 2 systems aren't joined up yet so you still have to do the green form on the plane.

I've just come back from NYC - you need to do the ESTA form online (I'd do it now and then it's done - it's valid for 2 years). You also need to fill the green card in on the plane too.

Whatever you do - don't use this link.

This is a company that has made itself look like the official ESTA website but is charging $45 per application for nothing. There is no charge to apply for this using the official US Embassy website.
