Congratulations and welcome to Hitched Smiley smile

First thing is probably to set a date and pick a venue, as you need these things sorted so you can book the rest!

    Good luck and happy planning!

    Congratulations and welcome ?

Venue and Registrar/Church are probably best to book first, then the other big things like Photographer and Dress (these can take 6-9 months if ordering).

I started with the guest list to give me a clue as to which venues to start looking at.

    Congratulations!

The top things on my to do list will be venue/guest list/budget as I think they all link in.

    Whereabouts are you?

    Hey,

Thanks for the welcome. I live in Warrington, Cheshire. I am making a quick guest list at the moment to get some numbers then going to start looking at venues. We are thinking of getting married in Sept 2013, which is just over 18 months away. Is starting now too far in advance as family keep saying I am getting carried away and should wait.

    Thanks for your advice

Hello! And congrats! We didn't think of date or guest list before going to see venues, wish we had though as fell in love with a venue and thought that 80 max would be loads of people but hadn't counted for the fact that my family alone was 67! Shame had to cut out a few cousins but I'm in love with my venue so don't care now! Lol date came about when looking at prices for the particular venue.

Hi and welcome to the addictive world of Hitched.

Firstly, CONGRATULATIONS...... What a lovely Christmas you must have had ?

Your friend is right. This is a great source of information as you can get advice from other brides (and grooms) currently planning their wedding, from "old marrieds" who have got married recently and also from us Hitchers in Business (HIBs) who offer great support when you need it.

I would defintely say to all newly engaged couples to think about numbers first and then go and take a look at venues and get a date set. Once that is done, get the BIG things booked up like your photographer and florist and then the other things will start fitting in to place as you decide on colour schemes and themes if ofcourse you decide to have one ?

    Good luck with your planning.

Hi, welcome to hitched and congratulations on your engagement!

As per the other responses, you need an idea of guest list and budget before you start to book anything, then start with venue/church and photographer, and depending on whether you choose a venue that already has one or not, you may want to start looking for a suitable caterer.

It's definatley not too soon to start planning. I got engaged in July and started planning our march 2013 wedding so thats about 18 months too. It gives you chance to take your time and not get too stressed out. Get key things booked up within the first 6 months as well as having a think about how you envisage your whole day, think about bridesmaids and start to have a look at dresses etc. I'm in a position now where with 14months to go I have the big stuff booked and lots of ideas about the rest, when I have a year to go I'll start knuckling down and booking more.

Suggest checking out the thread at the top of the page (think its called welcome to wedding planning..) as it will give you a better idea how the forum works and all the abbreviations we use.

Welcome to Hitched, you will find some lovely people with great advice here Smiley smile

my advice would be work out your budget first, then make everything fall in line with that, otherwise its very easy to get carried away. That said, by having a good old rummage around online I have saved loads on the prices I was planning to pay originally, there are plenty of bargains to be found.

    Happy planning!

Congrats and welcome to hitched. We have just booked our wedding for April 2013. I wrote a list of numbers then went looking at venues. I wouldn't say it's too early to plan, things get booked up quickly if it's something that you want. Xx

    Hi and welcome Catblack ?

You're near me, I live in Liverpool ?

Anyway it's up to you how soon you look at dates and venues. If you have your heart set on an extremely popular venue then I don't think 21 months in advance is too bad. I have been engaged for almost a year and not booked anything yet but we're getting married abroad and we know our ceremony and reception venue will be available so we're not rushing.

Hi and welcome to Hitched! Congrats on the engagement.

It's definitely not too soon to be looking at getting some of the bigger things nailed down. September is becoming a very popular month for weddings and if you're planning on a Saturday, some venues and photographers can get booked up two years in advance.

There's absolutely no panic but I would definitely start looking at your numbers and budget to get an idea of possible venues etc.

We booked our venue 16 months in advance and when we did there were only 2 dates left for the whole of 2012. We have a bit of a weird venue in that they don't do very many weddings but it gives you an idea!

Welcome to Hitched Catblack89 - I live in Warrington too (just near Ikea!) ?

Starting now is definitely not too far in advance - start by working out your budget and how many guests you think you would invite, then find a venue! There are some fantastic places not to far away.

I used Hitched for my planning, and theres a great bunch of people here with loads of experience.

My biggest tip would be not to start thinking of themes and colours and the like just yet as you'll be suprised how quickly your ideas change once you start looking into it. Focus on getting the big things booked and then you can have fun with the details ?
