Hello everyone.
I've posted on here a couple of time, but I've not formally introduced myself- how rude! ?
This place seems a bit more 'buzzing' than a couple of other wedding forums I've been on...
For those of you who are interested, we're getting married on 7th Sept 2013 in Portsmouth. Neither of us like a big fuss, so we're having a small bash- 45 day guests with about 25 more for the evening. Although, knowing us lot it'll still be pretty lively even with small numbers!
The theme for the day is 'Great British Seaside'...seemed apt- my fiance and I met on South Parade Pier and I've lived in / around Portsmouth all my life. Think 'Kiss me Quick' hats, beach huts, sticks of rock, etc. with a blue and yellow colour scheme. I've done a Pinterest board with some ideas: http://pinterest.com/skeptical78/wedding-junk/ It probably looks more like a plan for a kids' party; that's not too far off what we wanted...but with no kids, of course! ?
To date, we've booked the reception venue and the registry office, sorted the food / drink, entertainment (thanks to my brother's band after an initial massive stitch up by our original band!), cake, hen weekend (VERY important), having a go at decorations...hair / make-up and photography all freebies- I am a seriously budget bride, fortunately with some very talented friends / family which will see us through!
I suppose my biggest hurdle is that I'm a massive tomboy; my idea of heaven is sitting in front of the Xbox / footy all day with a mountain of pizza and beer...my idea of hell is any sort of shopping / pampering / fussing. I find it really hard to get excited about dresses / shoes / flowers and all the faffy decorating-y stuff. I am useless and every and all arts and crafts, so hand-making stuff is right out the window! I have tried on a few wedding dresses but have been pretty underwhelmed by the whole experience; I can imagine this will be the biggest challenge over the next few months. If I had my way, I'd rock up in jeans and a t-shirt...but think my mum might have something to say about that! The only positive I've learnt is that I was convinced I was a pear-shape, however both shops I've been into have told me I'm an hourglass which is a good thing apparently! Whatever I end up wearing on the day, I'm gonna have trainers underneath, that I have decided. (Having size 9 feet doesn't really help!)
Anyway, enough dribbling on....nice to meet you all. Hopefully I can pick up some tip-top money saving tips whilst I'm here, and get some emotional support with the dress shopping! ?
