Newbie and a no guest wedding!

meowkat, 11 March, 2009 at 21:43 Posted on Planning 0 12

Hi All,

I am a newbie to the forum. I am hoping to find someone else in the same sort of situation as me... though I kind of doubt it. Basically we are planning to get married in May with no guests at a registry office. Haven't figured out the whole needing 2 witnesses thing yet though.

Haven't got much money to pay for the wedding so the no guest thing is kind of a bonus!

So far I have my dream dress... got Felicity (in diamond white) by Maggie Sottero off Ebay for £100. Am hoping to get it altered on Friday for approx £100. It's just the legnth that needs altering. Not planning on getting it dry cleaned as there are only dust marks at the bottom which are gonna get cut off anyway except for on the train which would just get dirty again anyway... is that skanky??!! lol

Anyway reason for no guests is...I do not want to be the centre of attention.. I'm weird like that!!.. but that is the main reason! It would be more expensive cos would need reception etc. It would be awkward who to invite and I don't want to offend people. Also my other halfs parents are seriously complicated and wouldn't want them to meet my parents!! Am planning not to tell anyone we are getting married until after the event.

The pros to this are.. cheaper.. no interference.. i feel happier and I get my dress lol!!

The cons are... no one to help me sort my dress out before the day.. am going to be relying on my other half. He has already seen me wearing the dress anyway so he can help me get ready. Lucky I am not supertitious really!!!

So anyway am I the only one here that is having a no guest wedding???

KATxx

PS Where can I find a list of abbreviations for this site?? I have no idea what HIBS means ( or whatever it was!!) have worked out MOB means mother of bride though.

    Welcome to hitched meowkat

Not in the same situation as you but funny enough was talking to an old school friend on the net last night who is looking to do the same. Not sure if for same reason though.

    Abbreviations:

MOB - Mother of bride, FOB - Father of bride and then there is MOG & FOG

    SIL/BIL/FIL/MIL - In laws

HIB - Hitcher in busines - A hitcher who has bridal shop or is florist/jewellery maker/invitations etc

    H2B - Husband to be

    OH - Other half

There are many others. Ifyou get stuck just ask

Hey! Welcome! We're only having 13 to the ceremony, not quite no guest, but wee all the same.

I've been searching for a recent thread with all the abbreviations on it, but can't find it. Sure someone will be along soon to help.

HIB is Hitcher in Business...someone who is a member of the site who makes things for weddings/occasions.?

You could always pull 2 people off the street to be your witnesses ?

    Hi Kat

Why not ask a couple of hitchers to be your witnesses??? - you don't need to meet them until the day, and they can take some photographs of you and hubby so you have some great memories from the day.

Saves you asking people off the street, as am sure we would turn up looking smart - we are a nice bunch here.... ?

So all you have to do is say when and where it is and see if any of us are near to you. ? we all love a good wedding!!!

?, we could all create a hitched arch to greet you out of the registry office ?.

Seriously though, don't you have a couple of close friends that would love to see you in that gorgeous dress, it would be a shame to look so pretty with no-one to see it.

Great idea! I'll come! Well if you're anywhere near Surrey.........

Seriously! Sounds as though it's the kind of day you want, and that's what counts!

    Welcome!

Thanks for all your kind welcomes!

I haven't got that many good friends that would come. I have only been living here for 8 months ish and I haven't met anyone here yet. My good friends all have kids or work and would find it too far... and I don't have anywhere for them to stay!!

I saw someone advertising on Gumtree for wedding witnesses for £10 each. Thought that was a good idea but would have to keep fingers crossed they were reliable! Maybe that is more likely cos of the recession so someone will want an easy way to make some money!! I will worry about it closer to the time though!!
