Newbie and already feeling stressed!

eternallyme, 21 November, 2010 at 21:22 Posted on Planning 0 6

Hello ladies (and gents if you're reading!)

My long term boyfriend and I got engaged on the 11th November after nearly 8 years together so I've pretty much been dreaming of our weddng day for the past 6 years but now its coming time to actually making it happen (want to get married December 2011) Im just feeling so stressed about how much its gong to all cost. We went to look at our first venue this evening and it is perfect (except for it already being booked for out first chosen date, but i can compromise on this). Im now feeling torn as to what I want and what I need! Im sure that this is natural but how much do i compromise? I don't know whats worse... the prospect of looking back and regretting what i havent done or what i have... I know its going to be a special day anyway, but I really had that fairytale dream and im just feeling a bit bummed that it's probably not going to happen quite the way i wanted due to cost!

Sorry for the ramble, just need to let it out and don't want to keep going on at the OH!

Thanks

Deb

I think a lot of us have to make sacrifices somewhere as weddings do

cost a lot of money. If you set yourself budgets for everything and try haggling you may find you save money in certain areas which you can then use towards other things. look for bargains in sales and try being creative and do your own invites/favours etc. I saved a lot of money on my bridesmaid dresses, they cost me £12 each and you wouldnt think it, have flashed to show you, i added sparkles on the skirt myself. Good luck with all your planning, dont worry it will all come together.

    Hi,

We're newly engaged too (been together 10 years) and went on our first venue visit on Saturday. It still feels really overwhelming and like you we are on a budget so can't have everything we might like!

I can't offer much advice being a wedding newbie too but it may help to talk to your fiance and both write a list of the top 3 priorities for the wedding day - mine are nice venue, nice photos and nice dress lol.

Congratulations and welcome to Hitched! Smiley smile

I too got a little disheartened when I first started planning, I have always dreamt of a castle fairytale wedding but with only 15 months to save (At the point of getting engaged) it seemed to be slowly slipping away. But keep in mind everything you want and almost everything is still possible on a tight budget. I visited my first castle and there was no way we could have saved enough in our timescale (Nor was it free on our date or accomodating enough) so I kept looking and now have my castle closer to home and much cheaper, they are also willing to do anything I want them to, to make it our special day.

Keep searching, keep posting on here too as you will find lots of help.

    Hello - and welcome!

I managed to get lost of bargains by going to ebay and gumtree for suppliers. It is also a great time to call on any creative friends and family for help. I have certainly helped lots of my friends out when they have got married - and they did the same for me!

    Good luck!

    Thanks for the replies!

Its sounds like we are all inthe same boat! I think the biggest issue for me is the food..... if no-one eats it would be brilliant! Im thinking of seeing if i can negotiate on this! Will be making a few calls tomorrow!

I think im going to have a year of wobbling like this so I'll be posting plenty im sure!

    Thanks again!

The food thing got me, it would have cost a couple of thousand pound to feed people at the wedding breakfast - So I'm skipping a formal meal and am having an afternoon tea with sarnies, scones etc before we all leave for the evening where we will all (With another 120 guests) have a sit down hot buffet (I say buffet but it's a jacket spud each with loads of different fillings available plus salad).

So remember, you don't have to do everything by the book.. Traditions smishions.
