Newbie - don't know where to start!!!

mango26, 17 February, 2011 at 22:45 Posted on Planning 0 6

Total newbie to this!

We have nothing set in stone yet, but are discussing ideas for venues etc. but so far from internet searching am not coming up with what we're looking for - so thought I would koin on here and see if anyone had suggestions?

The plan is to get married in Las Vegas and have an extended honeymoon and then have a blessing and a reception/party back in the UK - more for the benefit of those who cannot be there in Vegas.

Have looked at local venues and packages etc. but nothing quite fits what we're looking for.

Ideally - the ultimate dream would be:

To hire a venue which has both outside and indoor facilities, so somewhere like a converted barn or grounds. We don't want any formal meals, just a light buffet for the afternoon and something like a hog roast for the evening.

We want it to be just a big party and finish off the night with a bang - literally - fireworks would be fab!

But everywhere I look has one thing or another missing from what we would want - licensing hours, no fireworks, pre-determined caterers etc.

Just wondered if anyone had any advice on this or suggestions of locations etc. within the North West!

Much appreciated!! ?

    Hi

Just a quick idea but have you considered posting on free index. You can specify the area and the things that you want - and then the venues that can provide it can provide quotes for you or at least let you know that they're there. All totally free and worth a go for nowt.

Hi and congratulations! Many wedding planners will help with elements of the wedding which you can't or don't want to do, including venue selecting, without you having to pay for the full monty as it were! Good luck and give me a shout if I can help with anything in the future x

Thank you for all the suggestions! Really appreciate the info - had registered on another site and not even a whiff of a suggestion from members - so really appreciate the link!

Have had a very busy week and weekend, and am looking at another busy week too this week! But I will definitely go over the links and the suggestions you have all made - and appreciate you taking the time to get back to me!

    Happy Planning! ?

Not sure if you are willing to travel, but we went to Woodhall Manor is Suffolk to have a look. Absolutely beautiful. A very old manor house but you can have as much or as little catering as you like. You basically hire out the place, including bedrooms. For the actual wedding they will provide the meals but we were thinking of hiring for the weekend so guests could stay a few days. There is a large kitchen so you can cook your breakfast/lunch & do your own thing, OR, they will provide 1, 2, 3 staff etc to cook or just clean up.

The grounds were really lovely and they had several indoor rooms and areas outside you could use. Courtyards, jacuzzi, lake etc.

Welcome to Hitched! Best of luck with your planning.

Think Jules idea about asking firework companies where they have provided is a great one......definitely gives you a starting point.
