Hello everyone, registered a few weeks ago but this is the first time I've properly been on here and thought I'd introduce myself.
Got engaged a couple of months ago at my birthday party in front of about 30 of our friends from all over the country! Now we're just trying to juggle how we are going to do things - some frustrating moments so far (like when I proudly showed him I could drive the budget down to less than £4000 and got accused of planning a "big wedding"!)
A bridesmaid spotted a great location that doesn't normally do weddings and we think after a final check next week we're definitely going to go for it. It's like a yoga retreat place with a beautiful old barn and accomodation for ourselves and the wedding party. Plus nearby hotels. It has a zen garden too. I'm not much of a zen/yoga person but it's beautiful AND affordable. There'll be 5(!!!) bridesmaids. We'll marry at the registry office in the morning then have a "ceremony" at the venue for everyone with full dress in the early afternoon. One of our friends will act as 'minister' for this. It's his payback for making us read at his wedding.
I'm going all out on the DIY front. Two of the bridesmaids are making the dresses - so fully designed however I want them. Bridesmaids all have cool skin tones and mine is warm so I'm going champagne and ivory to their ice blue and all the decor is going to work around that. Just discovered that engraving glass is pretty easy so rather than pay £2 per glass to hire them, we're buying fairly cheap ones for the same cost and engraving them - coveres the glassware and doubles as placetags and favours.
Yeah, so that's me getting started. And I'm really on here today to find an excuse not to do my study (work exams - pah!). Venue sorted. Big fights to come over catering and supplying tables, chairs, cutlery, etc (none at the venue) for a reasonable price. But I figure I'll leave that sensible stuff to him and get on with designing glassware, invitations, dresses and all the other stuff I find fun and he finds boring. I'm a bit crazy/off-the-wall, full of ideas and plans (that often don't come to fruition) and looking forward to getting to know you all.
Oh yes, and I'm going to be Mrs. Jackie Kennedy (really).
