newbie here!

holls85, 2 March, 2010 at 14:31 Posted on Planning 0 18

Hi everyone! right il start from the beginning!.....me and my partner have been together 6 yrs this june, engaged for 3...have 2 beautiful daughters and have decided to tie the knot! we planned this 2 wks ago and our wedding date is the 11th september 2010!!! I am soooo nervous...what with the losing 4 stone by the 1st of july(thats my deadline for a dress)....YES IM SERIOUS...to only just putting the deposit down on the hotel im wondering if we can pull this off!!...im looking on ebay etc for second hand bits n bobs..and if anyone knows of anybody or anywhere that sell cheapish but NOT tacky bits then id really appreciate it! also if anyone else has done a cheaper wedding and has any ideas?....

we are getting married at a registry office(we didnt want the church wedding) and then onto the holiday inn for their "grand wedding, for a grand" package. which is costing us slightly more due to more guests..the hotel is lovely..it was formally a marriot hotel and is old with wooden beams etc so its perfect!..but then theres the decoration of the room...also car hire? anyone else got ideas cheap but nice? the list gos on!!! i think i just wanted to write all this down to get it out of my head etc...and ask for HELP lol.

so if any of you have any ideas no matter how little i would love to hear them!!

thankyou for takin the time to read this and hope everyone else isnt stressing as much as me atm!....hollie Smiley smile

Hey Holls and welcome to hitched! Have you looked at the "for sale" section on here - people put bits and bobs on there.

? Let me guess... you're a tad excited?! You're in the right place. I wouldn't leave your dress that long as it can take months to get into the shop. I'm getting married on the 8th september, so just a few days before you.

    Hi Holls... WELCOME TO HITCHED!!

When I got married almost 6 years ago.. we did it all for approx 3500 & that included 2 weeks in Florida too.

We got married at a hotel & had the lot there, so saved on quite a few things.

For the cars we were lucky as we had a friend who had a top of the range merc, & he did the car for us, we just decorated it up a bit with ribbons.

My hubby got ready at the hotel & I got ready at home before going onto the hotel for our ceremony. I was really cheeky & got lots of extras for free thrown in at the hotel but I did know the gorl who was the wedding co-ordinator at the time.

We purchased our own booze as we got a deal too good to be missed & got the hotel right down on the corkage costs.

We had approx 50 to the day do & then approx 90 in total at the night do. We did not get married till 4pm & I think having a later wedding saved us a bit too.

If you have any crafty friends/relatives, rope them in t make as much as poss.

My dress was from Monsoon & I got it in the the sale, it cost me £86.50 & was exactly what I wanted. I had the back altered to a corset style as I did not like the zip back to it.

Hope that helps & good luck with all your planning & if you need any help with Jewellery give me a shout. I have a 3 for 2 offer on all my bridesmaid jewelelry/tiaras, so feel free to look onto my website.

    Debbie

    xx

    Hi and welcome to Hitched.

You said you were looking for place cards - I bought mine blank from a card making shop online. About £2 for 50. I am decorating them myself and also making own invites.

Hi Holls! Im in Birmingham and our venue is right next to the airport so that will help the Irish part of the family coming over find it easily enough lol, Yeah the HI package is the best Ive found and even H2B was suprised by the value....Im on a winner if he's not moaning about prices haha. I only have the dress that's 2 sizes too small but I'm sure we'll both be into our lovely dresses in time Smiley smile I have a notepad half full with idea's and endless lists but Ive decided on a butterfly theme, Ive designed invites on vistaprint very cheap and there looking good!!!! Im off to a bridal shop clearance day on sunday at a local hotel on the lookout for some bargain bridesmaid dresses next, found out today a DJ is thrown into the package too so another thing ticked off my list phew...

Good luck with the next few months and hope everything goes perfectly, keep us posted Smiley smile

Hey Holls85, U get married on the same date as me. We only got engaged in Sept 2009 so not long to plan.

We are doing all our wedding pretty much from scratch. We hired a hall very cheaply and getting all suppliers in seperately. It's keeping our costs down. Aiming for £5000. so far so good. (doesn't include honeymoon)

We priced our wine through majestic winehouse. It's half price if you go to france to pick it up and that way will keep our wine price down as like you we want to put 2 bottles of wine on each table. Doing it this way with ferry costs is still so so much cheaper. It's the corkage that gets you.

    Happy planning x
