Newbie Q - anyone used/heard of Trunkwell House in Berkshire?

LoobieLou948, 30 May, 2010 at 22:18 Posted on Planning 0 3

Hi,

Sorry to ask such a specific question as my first post, but I was wondering if anyone might be able to help me. We're getting married in 2012 and have just started looking for a venue. We're looking in the Reading area in Berkshire and found Trunkwell House in Beech Hill. It looks lovely, we went to visit and had an appointment with them to dicuss details and to give them info in order to get a price quote. We were promised a quote by midweek last week and have yet to receive anything. I emailed the organiser woman on Thursday asking how she was getting on and got a reply on Friday basically telling me to wait because she's working on it. I like the venue but don't feel overy reassured by the woman's manner - I wanted an efficient and organised seeming person to be dealing with me, not a laid back type.
I've looked at the reviews for it on the Venues tab, and they're pretty much all glowing, but all mention a different organiser/point of contact to the one we've ended up with.

Anyway, enough rambling. What I wanted to ask is, has anyone here used/been to/know someone who's had a wedding at this venue?

Thanks for listening.

Don't worry about Trunkwell House, it's a lovely venue and the people there are great. I'm sure they are working on your quote - it's a bit naughty not to have it out when they said but I'm sure it'll be worth waiting for!

My brother got married at Trunkwell in May 2008 - we had a fabulous day. Could not fault it in any way.

I am also a cake HIB and deliver there regularly. I guess they are a bit laid back compared with other places but they are always 100% organised and helpful.

Would definitely recommend it as a venue - I recommended it to my brother and sister-in-law and they were delighted with everything.

THe food, in particular, was scrummy - especially the hog roast in the evening!

Thank you both so much. I REALLY like the venue, and the chef (who we met at an open evening a few weeks ago) was really helpful and had lots of great ideas about food, so I was feeling a bit worried about the lack of a quote. I guess if the lady is new I should be patient and wait, but I'm struggling! I don't feel like I can start doing anything until we have a venue booked, even though it's 2 years away. Daft, I know.
