Hey everyone!

I recently got engaged (in January) and only have 7 months left at university until I and my groom graduate!

My loan does not spread far so I am unable to begin saving, and the same for my groom. I have a job lined up as soon as I finish, but would greatly appreciate any advice on ways to save money.

Also, what would you all recommend the first things are to get sorted or thought about.

My groom is also a northerner and I am a southerner so when graduation comes, we will be leaving each other for a while! [:'(] Anyone have any wise words to stay sane?

Thank you

Miss Harwood

I'm not superstitious (really) I just didn't want the number 13. Many of my family are sea-farers (Chief engineers or Navy) and its well known ships never have a room 13. So although I don't believe in much superstitious nonsense, the number 13 is kind of a family thing!

Plus I was drawn to 2012 as it's a momentous year with the Queen's diamond jubilee and the 2012 olympics, the party buzz is in the air! And you know how everyone remembers certain years, well I think 2012 may be one of those years.

I also feel like that about 2012. The last few years have been a bit rubbish and I was determined 2012 was going to be a GOOD year and would be MY year. So far all is well and I'm really enjoying 2012, and hopefully our wedding is going to be another fab highlight.

Also, I am a little superstitious. I have OCD and can be a bit funny about uneven or prime numbers so getting married in 2013 didn't sit well with me. (says the woman with three stones in my engagement ring... ahem...)

I've already been looking on ebay hunting around, looking at how much stuff is on there.

My OH and I live in Scarborough, and there was a poster up for a wedding fair near where we live for this sunday, free admission aswell. But we're visiting family this week so have missed it! So annoyed!

Are there many wedding fairs on around the summer?

When I was at uni, my flatmate got engaged and like you was worried about the cost of it. We set up a swear box and in less than a term and a few parties we saved £500 for her.

\maybe we had very rude friends, but I think it was just their way of supporting her.

Hiya Smiley smile Congrats on the engagement!

I'm a teacher too and know how hard it is to wait for your wedding. My OH and I lived with his dad for nearly a year before buying a house together, now we are getting married next year. I'm an M6 teacher so earning a fair amount and we are still broke ever month at the end, running 2 cars and working a house but couldnt have coped much longer living with his dad or apart, its not a nice situation to be in!

Bear in mind also that although your fiance is in a good position of being a primary male teacher, it took me 4 years to find a secure job and doing supply only just got me through the month (i had 2 jobs as well as supply isnt enough to live on - but then again i didnt live at home) Bear in mind supply could have him travelling up to an hour each way to a supply post, especially is he works for an agency. Now there is the rarely cover rule, many schools have their own in house supply which makes agency work a bit sparce in a lot of areas.

Hopefully though he will get a post quickly, but it will only bring in about £21k a year before taxes. Remember also that he has a year to go to train (unless he already has, sorry cant remember) so that really is no money coming in as working during a PGCE year is tough.

It might actually be worth waiting until he has secured a perm post and u have got the job u want before u actually set a date, especially if you dont know where you want to live. It would make more sense for him to job search in the areas you want to move to, or near where you are working?

I know its hard but it can be stressful starting out totally together away from uni and then with a wedding to pay for you might not get what you want.

We got engaged when we lived with my OH's dad but didnt set a date until we had our own house. It just so happend we were lucky in being able to get a house.

Good luck with it all x
