Newly Engaged! First Post, Venue Help!

Arrianne87, 7 February, 2014 at 10:32 Posted on Planning 0 15

Hello all!

This is m first ever wedding related post - EEEK!

So my lovely boyfriend of 3 years popped the Question on Saturday, so I am very newly engaged! Its all so exciting Smiley smile

We really want to get married next year, not too concerned when as I know alot of places will already be booked so we are being quite flexible on 'when' we just want to avoid August due to family members wedding, so ideally would like April/May/June next year, or we may have to wait until 2016.

Anyway, we live in Liverpool and we want to get married around this area but Im really struggling on venues, can anyone help?

We dont want to venture to far out of Liverpool maybe an hour or so; I've got a few appointments already booked;

Knowley Hall, Meols Barn, Sandhole Oak Barn & Heaton House Farm - But I just think they are going to be too expensive! I really want to get married outdoors, or at least be somewhere with beautiful surroudings/gardens. Does anyone have any suggestions for Merseyside/Cheshire area that I've not listed at all? Im trying to see as many places as soon as possible so we can get something booked in. I really dont want to leave it too late!

Many thanks in advance! x

    Congratulations & welcome.

I'm afraid I don't know the area, but why not contact venues for quotes prior to arranging viewings, that way you can start to rule out the venues which are too expensive, then arrange to view the venues that are within budget.

If you're not too stressed on the date then I don't think your in any huge hurry, but I am relatively newly engaged and we are all booked, I jumped straight on it, so I know that you'll be so excited and therefore keen to book for that reason alone! It's all real & set once booked and deposits are paid.

I hope you find the right venue, google should find you all sorts of venues and maybe some unusual places you hadn't thought of before either.

    Enjoy planning. Xx

I think you will fall in love with Knowsley Hall? I shot a wedding there last year and the venue is just out of this world, so many places for photos you are spoilt for choice.

    Thank you!

We've just booked to go an see Inn on the Lake, In the Lake District too. I'm so adamant about a hopeful outdoor wedding, it really restricts venues. Especially in Liverpool!

I love over the look of Knowsley Hall, cannot wait to see it think it'll be a 2016 wedding if we go with Knowsley Hall! Looks so beautiful Smiley smile not sure they allow outdoor weddings though so will need to chat with them on Thursday when I go, we don't want an official outdoor wedding venue as it's only a blessing were having by a friend not a formal registrar! We'll already have done that a few days before!

Adamant on having an outdoor wedding? We were too, hence we've ended up in Spain for ours!!

CONGRATULATIONS!! Oh if I could go back to those first few days of being engaged, that walking on air feeling before the weight of the wedding hits! Give yourself another week or so of bliss before letting the worry start!

I went to a wedding last year at Ness Botanical Gardens, not sure how far from Liverpool but that direction. The ceremony was outside and lovely gardens and the meal and evening entertainment was held inside. The room was very light and had lovely views. Nice food too. The only downside though it was an early finish of 10pm!! Not sure if that was the couple's request or the venues.

We'd considered going Abroad but there is quite a lot of elderly family on my HTB's side that we've decided to stay in the UK! If we can't get married outdoors because of the rain I won't mind so I do need a venue with a pretty indoor plan B at least!

Its so strange being engaged, I feel like I'm in a little bubble to be honest! Not sure it has sunk in yet! I'll know a lot more about my venue possibilities after tonight when I've met with my parents! Smiley smile

So exciting looking at venues, I always thought I knew where I wanted to get married at until they shut it down for renovations until the end of 2016! Typical!

    It's a strange one really!

When end looking at venues with outdoor options we've been told that the registrar makes the decision to whether it will be outside or inside, so even if it's beautiful we could still end up indoors.

So to ensure no issues, we'll have a registry office wedding with only our immediate family a few days before in my home town (Blackpool!) then have the 'wedding' on the following weekend we'll be asking a friend to carry out a blessing for us. A coupe of our friends have recently done similar things, and I suppose it's nice that we do the official legal stuff just small numbers, then getting our friends involved in the big day!

Plus us it means more a wedding week rather then a day too! But we've not finalised on that just yet, but it is our more favourable option.

Already getting pressure to pick bridesmaids etc! So I'm avoiding commiting to anything until we set out our budget & book a venue! Can't wait to get involved in the forums! X

    Congratulations!

Have you looked at West Tower in Aughton? The grounds are fairly simple but the views are stunning as it's on a hill.

We're getting married at Ashfield House in Standish, the grounds aren't much at the moment but it's going to be landscaped this year. Don't know what the plans are but might be worth asking?

    Congratulations on your engagement!

I don't know any venues in Liverpool but with regards to Cheshire you can get married outside at Statham Lodge (Lymm, Warrington). Also take a look at Mere Court (Knustford) and Nunsmere Hall (towards Northwich).

    Hello! Congratulations!!

I am a Liverpool bride to be too, and we are getting married at Meols Hall Tithe Barn in June next year. It is soooooo beautiful, peaceful, and the staff there are lovely! You wont regret going to see it (but then I would say that!). To give an idea of the cost, the venue hire is £4500, and then an additional £400 for the ceremony.

I also have a friend who is getting married at Heaton House Farm this year, and she cannot praise it enough! Its a beautiful venue, and run by professional event planners, so is really stylish and well thought out. However, I do remember her commenting that there was not a lot of outdoor space, there is a water garden where you can have photos but this is locked up after youhave had photos done, so you cant just wander about, she is getting married in winter though, so im not sure if it is different in summer months. If I remember correctly, I think she said it was costing around £3500 for venue hire. Also, may be a bit far for you - it is offically in staffordshire, and takes her an hour from warrington, so would be more like 1.5-2 hours from liverpool.

There are lots of nice venues in cheshire with beautiful gardens, I went to view Thornton Manor - who do offer outdoor ceremonies, and the gardens are gorgeous but it was super expensive (around £9000 for the manor itself and *i THINK* £5000 - £7000 for the marquees). You could look at Arley Hall, Tatton Park, peckforton castle, Style Lodge, Colshaw Hall (wedding open day on 22nd Feb!), Inglewood Manor (was my 2nd choice venue), sefton park glass house. The list goes on!

Most places will give you a quote before you go to visit, so if you are worried about budget you can always speak to them first.

    Good luck!!

    Hello and welcome.

Have you looked at Sefton Park https://palmhouse.org.uk/. I shot a wedding here and it was gorgeous. They also have a bandstand on the grounds that maybe has a license to get married in but you'd have to check.

Thanks for all the suggestions! We've definitely moved on with our venues!

We ruled out Heaton House farm for the cost (£7000 venue hire alone in high season which is what we want) & just didn't feel right for us. Sandhole Oak Barn we love, but again looking at £**** dependant on the day we pick to get married. (They have no Saturdays left in Summer for 2015, so would be 2016 if we picked there). Loved the feel of Sandhole, very light, all in one room, lots of space, nice views, relaxing, on site accomodation was also lovely.

I've also got us booked in to see Knowlsey Hall & leasowe Castle this Thursday, then Meols Barn & Isla Gladstone on Saturday, Springfield House & Great Hall at Mains on Sunday back near my home town, and Inglewood Manor & Singleton Lodge next week!

Then when I get back from my girls trip to NYC, we've got Storrs Inn, Windermere & Inn on the Lake, Glenridding on the following Saturday.

So lots of viewings going on & we;ve managed to narrow it down to some approximate months we're happy with

May/June 2015 (HTB cousin gets married August 2015 so we want to avoid it being too close to this date)

    June/July/August 2016 So fingers crossed!

Hey! Not sure if you've picked your venue yet but I'm from Cheshire and we recently booked Peckforton Castle. It's definitely worth a look if you haven't chosen anything yet xx
