Newsflash **Dress Problem With 9 Days To Go***

haylee81, 17 May, 2012 at 18:40 Posted on Planning 0 13

So today I went and picked up my dress from being altered, a family member tried her hand at it the first time and bodged it so took it to a professional!!

Get inside, strip off eagerly anticipating it fitting as it should...she struggles to do it up!! The dress has been altered by my measurements and she also pinned it, but it's about an inch to tight under my bust/on my lower ribs. The boning makes it feel a little uncomfortable but due to her going on holiday tomorrow she was unable to alter it, to which I had no choice but to take it away. I'm now concerned that if I put on even the tiniest bit of weight it will feel worse. The rest of the dress she has done perfectly but now I'm going to be on a worry mission until the 26th. I'm now having to go bra less for some breathing room.

Very concerned!!

Poor you! Would some Spanx pull you in a bit, maybe?

Could she not alter it today? Before she goes on holiday?

Maybe try to find someone else to do it? Another dress shop perhaps.

Stomach crunches, plank position, detox diet? I think it's rather bad of the seamstress to just say well I'm going on holiday so there's nothing I can do. Maybe try another dress shop in your area and plead with them for help? Independent shops tend to be quite helpful!

Wait, what?! Unless you gained enough weight since you were fitted, I think she measured you wrong or altered the dress incorrectly (given that she pinned it, I imagine the latter, though she might have pinned it incorrectly as well). I've had this happen before, though not with a wedding dress. I've gone in, had it pinned, had it altered, LOST WEIGHT, and then had the dress be too tight. It really shouldn't be that tight under your bust. As far as her going away on holiday, good god, she needs to fix your dress pronto! I'd call her back and demand that she do something about it, either herself or recommend you out to another seamstress, whom she should pay.

I just want to add again how mad I am for you. I want to punch this seamstress (hopefully she's not a friend.)

How does the dress do up? Zip? Corset ties? Buttons?

Thanks for all your replies. I've thought about those sucky in things but don't think it would help, it's my ribs that's causing the problem and don't think I can get away with taking a couple out for the day lol. I think it's the boning because it's quite stiff it's putting pressure on my ribs because it is a little tight there, like I said everywhere else is perfect.

MAG2FMC - I haven't changed weight at all, I made sure I got to a happy weight before I took it to her so it was obviously her mistake. It was my own fault I should of insisted she changed it but I would of had to collect it a few hours later with her jogging off on holiday that day and unfortunately my partner had to get to work and I would have had no way of collecting it back. I've contemplated getting in touch with someone to fix it but It's cost me enough already and she's now out of the country. Just going to have to try and maintain this weight and hope I can shift a little more lol x

It's just a zip at the back, she also altered the elasticated band inside the dress but I can't do it up as it kills me lol x

Right, I'm so sorry about your situation. I hate your seamstress, and I hope it rains throughout her holiday. Mwahahah.

Seriously though, there's a couple things that can be done. One, as someone's mentioned, a seamstress can change the back to a corset back. I've heard this is not difficult and averages around £50-80. Two, if you don't need too much let out, they can put vents/panels in the sides of your dress which will losen it up. This might be the better way to go, and I've heard the vents are not too difficult.

As for finding a seamstress, call around. Tell your story. People love to help others in crisis. If you explain the situation and that you only have 9 days to go, I bet someone can fit you in.

Hi hayley81, hope you don't mind me saying but my friend had exactly the same problem but didn't change her dress, by the time she had eaten she was in so much pain she couldn't drink or dance and said if she had had some jeans/change of clothes then she would have changed straight away! She had to keep going every half hour with her bridesmaids and unzipped for comfort. This is probably an extreme and yours isn't as bad at all so I'm not saying this to scare you but it made me so sad to see her like that and whenever she thinks about her dress now she shudders!! So if there is a chance something can be done, for not too much expense then I'd go for it, as has already been said people do love to help in a crisis!

Hope something gets sorted for you xx
