Nice restaurants in Brighton? JK, Mildred about?

Flump, 20 January, 2009 at 17:36 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 13

Olaaaaaa - any recommendations for a posh dining experience in Brighton please? I've already booked the Ginger Man (the Norfolk Square one rather than at Drakes - is one better than the other?) for one night, but would like somewhere nice for another night. I was thinking maybe Terre a Terre or Seven Dials, but is there anywhere new and exciting that I should check out? Don't really fancy Hotel du Vin and definitely not Havanas, and I think the trendy Thai restaurant I went to last time has closed down ☹️

Any tips gratefully received! ?

    Hey,

its not all that posh , but pieros in spring street is amazing. a lovely couple run it and have done for 30 odd years. everything is hand made freshly and they will cater for all tastes. its realy small and intimate too!!

i went to the ginger pig last weekend (hove) and i really didnt rate it to be honest was really expensive and i didnt even think it was that nice!! (i was hungry after so had cheese on toast when i got in!!!!)

The Gingerman at Drakes is no more - a parting of the ways. I think the Gingerman group probably wanted to invest elsewhere. Norfolk Square's the original and best I think, so good call!

My foodie friend Em went to a nice Japanese restaurant last week. Want me to find out about it? How posh do you want?

Really? I had lunch there a couple of weeks ago and it was lovely, and not at all expensive for what it was. Depends what you're after I suppose ?

i did see the lunch menu, and it looked great, but the evening menu didnt impress me really, there was only about 5 things on it, none of which were particulally yummy for £18!! then again, maybe im just a fussy b*tch!! ha ha

i only went because everyone raves about their restaurants!! maybe ill have better luck at one of their others!!

Yeah they still have the bell, it scares the absolute hell out of me everytime!! i reallt should expect it by now!!! i dont think its seafood, its a bit of everything really, think the menu changes on a weekly or monthly basis, depending on what piero fancies cooking!!! i love it in there they make u feel like your the only person in the place, and its quite cute in there although it is like a living room!!! (in a good way)

Ooh thanks for the recs - I have just been perving at the Terre a Terre menu actually, I quite fancy the idea of laying off the meat for a change. Wow didn't know about Gingerman at Drakes going - have just looked at the Drakes site and their new restaurant menu is eye-wateringly expensive, ouch!

Thai, I loooove Thai! That looks fab Mildred thanks, love their website that says 'this dish has photo!' - bless ?

Piero's sounds intriguing, will investigate further thank you! ?

Due South on the seafront is supposed to be nice. I love Terre a Terre and could happily eat there all the time. The man who owns Seven Dials Restaurant also opened one called Sam's of Brighton or something like that and that is supposed to be nice too. My fave restaurant is just round the corner from me and its just off Seven Dials its a Japanese cafe bar called Murasaki and the food is delish?

Sam's is nice. Not so posh as 7 dials. But nice. Neighbour had a meal there recently though where her phesant (? Partridge?) was jelly raw on one side and when they sent it back they came back implying that it should be pink and she knew not of what she was speaking - but it was properly a bit raw.

The meal I had there was nice though.

Blanche house also was amazing and fantaztic when I went there. Cocktail bar brilliant. Have heard mixed things about it.

We had an amazing meal at the Zilli restaurant at the myhotel, we totally didn't rate the hotel, it was crap but the meal at Zilli was awesome, we sat at the chefs table and it was one of the best meals we have ever had, it rescued a weekend that was hanging by a thread of disaster!

See, there you are. I thought Blanche House was massively over-hyped, with just about adequate food and piss-poor, cocky service. And the lighting's dreadful too. Grim.

REALLY!! When did that happen? I went there the week before Christmas. It was a Tuesday night and it was still busy - and the weather was awful. I loved their apple and cinnamon lollies and their spinach soup served in sherry glasses - yum (served as little sides). But saying that, the starter, main and dessert were not particularly nice. I dont think my chicken terrine contained any chicken whatsoever, it tasted a bit plasticy and had that thin jelly/membrane stuff round the outside.
