Nintendo DS's are so blimmin unsociable

Missus Jolly, 14 April, 2009 at 09:01 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 6

My daughters best friend is with us for the day. She has arrived with a DS. I absolutely loathe them because they turn normal children into unsociable, monosyllabic, grumpy monsters. Why would you send a child to a sociable playdate armed with a solitary activity? It has caused one grump off already. My brother does this on a regular basis too. His four year old has one. Is it just me?

edited to say four. She got it for her third birthday.

K has one, he is 4 and got one for Christmas from my Dad. I would never send him to a playdate with one though. They are brilliant for car journeys etc and I must admit he's not on it all the time.

Not just children, try getting an answer out of my H ?

That said, a good book had the same effect on me as a child. Still does come to think of it...

My two have one and I'd only let them take it with them to friends if their friends have one too. Then they can chat to each other through it (for some reason writing and drawing pictures is more interesting than real chat) and can play games as well.

I just spent the extended weekend with my family and my mum spent all weekend with her nose stuck in her DS playing sudoku. Dad likes the peace from the menopausal nightmare she is but is definately miffed that she's so into it that she just ignores him

I made them all go outside. It is a lovely day and is forecast to be crap for the rest of the week, they need to make the most of it.

Not DS related but when my SIL was about 16/17 we took her to alton towers with us and the whole car journey she was on the phone to her mates - I wanted to ring her ungrateful neck by the time we got home ?
