    Hi there!

First of all Welcome to Hitched!

    ?

Everyone here can help you, but also everyone is at different stages of planning, so try not to get too overwhelmed. There is alot of people who are very organised and have everything planned well in advance.

    You have plenty of time.

Your first step is to set a date. And then book a church and/or venue. If you are thinking end June or July next year, you might need to get a move on selecting a venue as that is a very popular time of year to get married.

Until you have booked your venue you can look into other things, like:

    Colour scheme(s)

    Wedding attendants (Bridesmaids, Ushers etc)

    Type of Ceremony (Church/Civil)

Number of Guests (And draw up a rough guest list)

    Dress

    Photographer

    Florist

    Entertainment

These are just a few of the things you can do now, and researching them all in advance is good organisation.

I am getting married in June next year and have my venue, photographer and thats it. I'm working on the rest. Smiley smile

I have looked and thought about some of them

    Colour scheme(s)

    Wedding attendants (Bridesmaids, Ushers etc)

    Type of Ceremony (Church/Civil)

Number of Guests (And draw up a rough guest list)

and a few of the venues we are looking at enclude entertainment

how long befor the wedding will you buy your dress and attendents outfits?. i am a bit nervouse 2 buy now as i am worried out weight and also with my bridesmaids they will deside to have children before the wedding and i have 2 flowergirls and 2 page boys who are 2, 2, 1 and 8 months just now so they will grow.

i am glad to know i am not the only one who still has lots to do it dose not help my OH is so laid back and thinks we have a year to plan! if it was up to him we would book venue and plan enything a months before.

    Don't panic you have ages.

You will need to buy your dress about 4-6 months before the wedding if they need to order it.Start looking soon but don't buy straight away as tastes change. We planned to get married 2009 but had to postpone due to having another baby and the dress I picked is completely different to what I thought I wanted. I went to at least 8 bridal shops tried on at least 3 dresses in each that I thought I liked then found a small bridal shop tried on 1 that I thought I liked then she bought in another dress for me to try I wasn't wowed by it on the hanger but put it on and it was THE ONE.

Bridesmaids I would ask the shop you are getting them from. They don't take anywhere as long as wedding dresses.I got my flower girl and page boy outfits from Next and they are as good if not better than some i've seen in the wedding shops. I have only just bought them and my wedding is August 20th 2011. We only decided to get married in March and I nearly have everything planned now just a few things left like shoes for the page boys and flower girls as they grow quickly I am taking them no earlier than 4 weeks before the wedding.

Start looking at what flowers you like soon and find out what's in season if you need to keep costs down.

Most importantly enjoy planning your wedding don't let people try and take over get the day you and your OH really want.

    Hi

I'm in a similar situation. We just got engaged about 3 weeks ago and wanted to gave the wedding in May/June. I did lots of searches for venues and then made a list of all the ones within a set distance with details such as capacity, availability of accomodation nearby etc. then we decided what we wanted and 2 came out as top runners. We went to look at the first one and fell in love with it.

We've booked for 1st June. The venue we looked at didn't have any space for weekends in June, There were a couple of fridays left and plenty of space mid week.

The only other thing I've booked is the horses and carriage as I wanted something quite specific. Oh and I've asked about the church but theres a new vicar starting next week so I need to wait for the warden to ask once he's settled in but hopefully that wont be a problem.

Everything else I've got ideas about but haven't really done anything about. I've been reading a lot of posts on here and elsewhere to get some ideas of what others are doing.

I agree that it all seems a bit overwhelming at first as there's so much to do but it must be do-able.

Don't worry - 12 months is bags of time

Agree with the others you need to decide on a venue and date and book that first

I agree, get your venue booked and then the rest will follow a lot easier. In the meantime start looking online and in magazines for ideas of flowers, colour schemes, wedding dress styles etc. that you may like. T be honest I wish I only got engaged a year before as I am now twiddling my thumbs watching my ticker until the big day as the majority is already done!
