No venue booked and 18 weeks to go...STRESSED!!

Penny P, 23 October, 2013 at 08:34 Posted on Planning 0 24

129 days until our big day and we still haven't booked the venue for our reception!

We looked at the venue Sunday before last just before it reopened after refurbishment last Friday. The manager said the date would be held for us until we had made a decision about it the venue. We decided that evening it would be perfect so emailed the manager on the Monday (this was his preferred method of contact as he was up to his ears in it getting the place ready for reopening) stating our requirements and asking him for a quote. We've heard nothing since. I have emailed him again and also left a message with the receptionist.

Am I being unreasonable/unrealistic? I understand he must be run off his feet and there must be many teething problems (the place was destroyed by fire so it's been 18 months since it was last open, new management, new staff etc etc)

What would you do? I don't want to appear all Bridezilla but it's only just over 18 weeks until our wedding day plus Christmas and New Year fall inbetweeen that so we may as well write off those two weeks as everyone (including ourselves) is consumed by all things Christmas!

Advice please!

I'm guessing the venue is local? If so, I would be popping down there in my lunch.

It's 40 in drive away but good idea, I'll take a trip out that way tomorrow as I have a day off.

I get the same fret of being a bridezilla but all you after is clear communication which should be a good business practise. I agree with the others to popping in

I expect he probably hasn't time to come up with a quote, what with everything going on in the building. He probably has seen your email though - would be courteous if he just emailed back to say he's looking into or whatever. I think your best bet would be to go down there in person and keep calling until they get fed up with you and give in!

I definitely think an impromptu drop in might be a good idea although I suspect he is many rushing around trying to make sure it's ready before they open again.

Let us know how you get on. Fingers crossed it gets sorted soon!

I worked in hotels for years and I know how much stress the manager can be under in normal circumstances so I can imagine he is MEGA stressed at the moment, plus there is a grand opening by invite only next weekend (my invite must've got lost in the post...) so I'm sure I'm at the bottom of his 'to do' list!

Will call in tomorrow and hope he is there!

Despite all that's going on he should still be able to respond to you at least a reassurance e-mail of sort would've helped. Best of luck Smiley winking

Very glad for you, Penny! I know that suppliers are busy, but they should be on hand and answering emails and enquiries as fast as possible. At least you can start planning everything else now that is confirmed.

Tog, Cake, Flowers. I'd say these three first and then invites as soon as you can.

Just booked tog, I met her a while ago but didn't book her as I was too obsessed with the venue thing, she's great so happy happy! My sister has offered to make the cake(s), she's very artistic and decorates cakes as a hobby. I'm having three tier - one chocolate marble, one Battenberg and one red velvet - a bit of a challenge for her!

I can start getting excited about the day again now :-)

I'd love a wedding band but not sure if our budget can stretch to it :-( H2B has a relative who is in a wedding band but I can't stand the singer's voice but it would be at a discounted price...something to think about!

I have all the other bits are sorted minus accessories and my ring.
