No Wedding?

FuturePhoenix, 23 May, 2013 at 11:54 Posted on Planning 0 4

Hi everyone,

I've been using this site a while and decided to venture into the forum for some advice.

We have been planning our wedding for a couple of months and have had a bit of a "what if" moment.

Im not one for big days, center of attention, and the thought of all the people looking at me gives me mild panic attacks (not a good idea in a corset dress!) and we were working out guest list and due to him having hardly any family (I'm talking 2, maybe 3 adults, and 1 child) and my family being fairly spread out and complicated, we have started to talk about skipping the big 'Wedding' as we wasn't having a religious ceremony anyway, and it just being the 2 of us, our daughter (who is 3) an a couple of photographers (plus a registrar obviously).

however I have NO idea where to start looking for ideas and places. We aren't restricted to an area although we are in Essex, nor date (although summer either this or next year would be nice) but we don't need a whole venue, and I don't know where to start. I've never even thought about wedding stuff before now so it's all a bit overwhelming.

Does anyone have any helpful tips or ideas? Has anyone done it themselves? As long as we have an amazing day together as a family and some beautiful pictures to show everyone and keep forever, the rest doesn't matter to us, we just want to be together and be married, I don't need a hundred people there to validate how I feel about him. Hi,

Thank you, I wil check out their website. I'm a bit of a weather wimp so don't want to risk outdoors (especially since its mid May and we have just had hail!) but we definitely need a small venue. No pout having a whole manor house for the 3 of us. Smiley smile

What legal bits do I need to arrange? X

Well there are loads of places abroad you can go to just the two of you but me and my partner and doing the age old, 'off to Gretna' this October after a family dispute and a bit of disruption. I'm not one for a massive big fuss, would rather save the money and put to other things that are more important but if you shop around there are lots of things you can do.

Marry here at a registry office for a small fee and go straight abroad on holiday, marry abroad, loads of places just have a browse on the net Smiley smile

We have considered abroad, he is part French so we considered Paris, but something in me is resistant. I want to get married here, in the uk. I don't know why, it just feels important to me. Otherwise we'd be off to Florida in a heartbeat, it's definitely warmer abroad. Smiley smile

We are buying a house and planning a second baby too so I am resistant to spending thousands on a wedding when we can do it a lot cheaper and have more important things with the money (like house and baby things) xx
