No Wedding Breakfast

madforit, 18 July, 2011 at 22:42 Posted on Planning 0 4

Just wondered what people think of having no formal wedding breakfast, but a sit down buffet instead.

We've only just started to think about plans for our wedding which is in Oct next year. There will be at least 150 guests and we don't have a huge budget. We will be having a civil ceremony and want a big celebration\party and lots of fun, rather than "traditional and formal". At least 2/3s of the guests will be travelling quite a long distance so everyone would be attending all day as we couldn't really expect them to travel so far to just attend an evening reception.

We were thinking of having a hog roast with a variety of worldwide food, Thai, Italian, Indian served as a hot sit down buffet, if you know what I mean. There will also be food later in the evening of some kind and canapes\nibbles\drinks straight after the ceremony.

Just wondered if anyone had done something similar and how did it work out or if you were planning something similar.

Thoughts would be gratefully appreciated! Thank you. x

Personally I think that you can have whatever you want as its your wedding.

I have been to a wedding that had no wedding breakfast and everyone was there for the whole ceremony and reception (no sep evening guests) and they had a buffet and it was fantastic.

Has to be one of the best buffets I have ever had - go for it if its what you want x

This is exactly what we did! We wanted it more relaxed and fun rather than stuffy and formal. We still had teh beautiful hotel, dresses, suits etc, but we have the church ceremony at 4pm, photos, drinks, buffet at 6pm, then after that was speeches, cake cutting and a party! It was awesome, we got the best of both, saved thousands by not having a sit down meal, and everyone said it was the most enjoyable and fun and relaxed wedding theyv been to. Go for it! xxx

Phew thank you ladies. So glad to hear that others have done it or are planning on doing it too. Think we'll be sticking with the original plan now.

gsijane: love the idea of the top table being served!

I'm panicing about things already, goodness knows what I'll be like nearer the time!!

We are having a hog roast and salad buffet with quiche for the veggies and we are buying it from waitrose entertaining as we found caterers did not do particularly cheap buffets.

Also some venues have set menus and won't let you have a buffet instead of a three course meal....
