North West Newbie

Hi girls, just registered and making a start on planning our big day next year (28th September 2009). Lovely church wedding with reception for god knows how many (trying to figure out the guest list). Got a few dress appointments planned and need to get my head round insurance too as a dressmaker I had an appt at has just gone bust unfortunately, luckily I hadnt lost anything.

Dont want a video personally of the day but the photographer is important (recommendations please) as my hubby to be's dad (RIP) was a photographer. Got my florist in mind from a personal recommendation, just gotta book her.

Im making a list of venues to visit and fairs to go to and would appreciate any help at all. Based in Uppermill which is in Saddleworth, near Oldham but not too fussed about the venue being local as many of our friends and family are scattered around the Manchester/Oldham/Rochdale area.

Seen a few already, Saddleworth Hotel (Strange owner put us off), Bella Vista (nice but maybe too small), scaitcliffe Hall in Todmorden (very grand-best at mo), gonna visit Hey Green soon too. Any more recommendations?

Fi

Hi fi, I'd say have a look around at some wedding photographers prices and decide on what you want from your photographer...I mean in terms of how long you want them there, what type album (if any) you want, and go from there.

    HTH xx

We also cover your area www.marctoddphotography.com (if you want a quote mention Hitched as we offer a Hitchers disount)

In terms of what to budget, like Bec84 says start by working out what you want in terms of coverage - do you want getting ready images, speeches, first dance etc etc. Do you want an album, CD only package etc..... Once you have a clear idea, look at different photographers websites for an idea of style and then contact them for a price based on exactly what you want. Also it is a good idea to meet with them and see if you get on.

    Good luck with your planning!

It can vary vastly from one to another. In my opinion, wedding photography is one of those things where you really do get what you pay for. It helps to prioritise when setting a budget, eg, are nice photos more important than an expensive dress? To us, the photographer was one of the most important elements of the day because good photos will be lasting memories of our day for years to come, so we were prepared to spend a large proportion of our budget on the photographer. To give you an idea, we are spending £1575 on our photographer, and our total budget for the day is £10k.

Thanks MrsLtobe, your budget sounds similar to mine and the choice of photographer is really important for other reasons but also because they are the things that we will always keep.

Ive made an appt to see a local photographer who has been highly recommended tomorrow, probably the first of many.

Weve managed to find a really, really good photographer after a friend (and also our florist) recommended us Esther Marie Photography.

We met Esther herself at her studio and got on really well, the photographs are stunning and the albums are gorgeous. We had a good long chat and she explained everything to us.

Me and H2B are really chuffed too as we thought this would be the hardest thing to choose.
