Not Been Around For 2 Weeks....................

sal.san, 5 October, 2011 at 12:55 Posted on Planning 0 13

Hi Fellow Hitchers

As the title says, I have not been around for a couple of weeks. Nearly 2 weeks ago, my dad had a very large stroke which completely knocked us all sideways and both mum, myself and sister spent all last week at the hospital with dad. It is absolutely devastating to see our hero and my "pops" being so helpless and breaks my heart when I leave him. The good news is that he has come on great over the last few days and the physios had him in a chair yesterday, his feed tube is out as he is now eating (albeit soft food) and every day we see an improvement.

My H2B has been my rock during this time and I really dont know what I would have done without him. Our wedding has been the furthest from my mind during this time and now we can see dad recovering, I realise that I need to shift my bum. We had an appointment with the TOG last week which I postponed (he was great about it) so really need to get things sorted and finalised.

Another thing, I have my hen this weekend and only on Monday just gone, I decided that I would still go away (dad would be absolutely horrified if I didnt go). Obviously mum isnt coming and neither is my sister (very sad about) but she wants to be at home with mum. I know it wont be the weekend we were going to have but I know dad will be on my mind constantly. My dear friends have said that we dont have to party and just do what I feel is right for me.

Finally, I wish to congratulate all the recent newly weds that I didnt get around to write on their good luck thread and also good luck to any Hitchers getting married this week/weekend.

Love,

Sal xxxxx

What everyone else has said really.

    Keep us updated.

And even though it's easier said than done, try to enjoy your hen night. It's only going to happen once.

    Xx

So sorry to hear that - you must all be so shaken and upset.

3 weeks before my hen do I found out my dad had terminal cancer. We all still went to my hen do and if anything it was nice to have something to celebrate - not to take our minds off it as that isnt the right thing to say as my dad will always be on my mind but just as a little bit of a release iykwim? The wedding gave the whole family something to focus on and was something to look forward to when the future seemed so grim.

Dont feel bad for going as your dad will not want you to miss out on your one and only hen do. Go and dont feel guilty for having fun with your friends as I'm sure your dad would want you to have a good time.

I hope that helps in some way. xxx

    Hi ladies

Many thanks for all your kind words and thoughts. We had good news last night in that dad is no longer needing to be on the "acute stroke ward" which is a massive relief for us and now will be transferred to another hospital for his physio and speech therapies.

BIG thank you for your words and thoughts.
