Not really sure what to put here

Not really sure what to do with myself. I phoned a colleague and said I was staying off today. Have had very little sleep and still can't really stop crying. Haven't told boss (who is working from home today) but will need to as I'm sure I'll get a few calls/emails. Have got some stuff that would be better if it was done today (but not entirely essential) colleague can do part but not all of it. Might be better to take my mind off things though?

I always find it's better to keep busy. We buried our cat in the front garden, put a big granite stone over the top (the children put some flowers on top) and there's a pretty bush growing over the top. He used to sun himself out there, hence putting him there.

RIP Buster dog, like others have said, Buster wasn't 'just a dog' he was a member of the family, and you will naturally grieve as it's a huge loss. Time does heal but it doesn't mean you'll forget him, you'll just smile and laugh at the great memories you have when he was with you. Cry as much as you like, it helps, I know when I lost mah boy Zippy 2 years ago.

Oh Chook, I'm so so sorry lovely. ?

Losing a precious pet who is also a best friend is so hard. The world will feel quiet and sad. It will get bareable, then easier but for now just get through today. Think of the B Man, think about times he was funny, silly, naughty or just being the B Man and smile through the tears.

    We're here for you mate.

I think it's best to keep busy and try and take your mind of it Chooks, if you can't face work then don't go but do something rather than sitting and dwelling on it, even if it's just going for a long walk or something [another big hug]

So sorry to hear about your loss. It's incredibly unjust, sometimes, that they live such short lives compared to us. It will feel easier every day and there will come a day when you just have the happy memories instead of the heartbreak. He must have been a very special boy.

Oh Chicken, that's so horribly crap. I think I told you about our black lab? I still miss her dreadfully but in time found I spent remembering the fun things we used to do together rather than the fact that I miss her so much......Be kind to yourself though, he was part of your life for a very long time and although not everyone will get it, it's a very big deal.

Let me know if there's anything I can do to help.

I'm filling up just reading about everybody's experiences and the outpouring of love and support for you Chook. I can't imagine what you're going through and how you feel because my little boy is still with me.

I'm so sorry it was Buster's time to leave. I'm sure he knew how much you loved him - our dogs do don't they? You can see it in their eyes. Let the tears come and then over the coming days and weeks they'll be replaced by memories of all the fun and joy he brought you. All those naughty things he got up to - the things he did that made you laugh - the favourite walks, the toys he loved.

I know it's impossible right now but I try to live by the motto "don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened" but I think smiling through the tears is a good place to start.

So sorry to hear that Chicken. I know how horrible it is, one of our cats went missing two months ago and we never found out what happened to him, can only assume the worst. So horrible to lose such a precious member of the family.

I'm actually in floods of tears after reading through this thread.

    Look after yourself.

I'm so sorry to hear that Chicken - what a sad loss.

I think it will hurt for a while then eventually, although you'll never forget Buster, you'll remember all the wonderful memories rather than the pain

    Hope you're ok

I'm really sorry to hear that Chicken. It's horrible when a pet dies and I think a lot of non pet owners don't realise how bad it can be. I agree with CBH, it's hard and it might not be easy to see it now but "Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened".

    Hi Chook,

I am so sorry for your loss. Losing a pet, in my experience, is the same as losing a family member. My dogs have always been a huge part of my families life.

Don't be too hard on yourself, if you would feel better at work, go to work, if you would feel better staying at home, stay at home.

Have you thought about having a funeral for him so you can say goodbye? My family did that with our dogs. Other people made stupid comments, but it really helped us try to 'move on' if that makes sense?

Hope you will be ok. The next few days will be hard, but all I can promise you is that with time you will feel better.

Take care, lots of love xx
