Nothing blue! :(

nemi, 30 May, 2014 at 16:21 Posted on Planning 0 13

Only 8 days to go and I have suddenly remembered that I don't have anything blue!

My colours are ivory and red so I don't want anything that is going to jump out too much.

Does anybody have any ideas what I could do?

Or for inspiration can you tell me what your something blue will be?

    How about blue knickers?

    Or a blue bra?

    Or blue toenails?

Or a blue piece of ribbon tied to your undergarments?

    A blue garter?

Do you have blue eyes? That could work....

    LOL!

    HTH Smiley laugh

I once read about someone who cut a blue heart out of an old t-shirt of her mums and her grandmothers. One heart was slightly smaller than the other (there may have been one of her t-shirt hears in the mix) and then she sewed them into the lining of her dress, one on top of the other. No idea where I read this, but it seemed like a really sweet way of incorporating blue in somewhere!

Oh, and I also read about a bride who asked her bms to sign the bottom of her shoes (or maybe the inside?) in blue pen, depends on your shoes, but this would be quick and easy at a push!! And it would mean you definitely had your girls right there with you!!

I think I need to keep a note of where I read these things from….

    Good luck with your quest!

My issue is the borrowed or old! I have my Mum's pearls that I was going to borrow, and then I wanted my Grandmother's ring as my old, but sadly someone burgled my Grandad's house, and that is one of the things they stole.

My Mum is sewing a tiny blue shoe charm into my dress (it was in her dress, and my sister's too). But you could get any charm that is blue and sew it in.

At my friend's wedding a couple of years ago, a family friend gave her a blue ring - just costume jewellery - and we sewed it into the hem of her dress last minute.

It doesn't have to be anything big. Or anything on display even. You could get a blue pin that holds your flowers together? Or goes inside your bouquet? Or a blue pin in your hair somewhere. Or even paint your toenails blue perhaps if they are hidden in your shoes?

Another friend of mine had blue pants! But then she felt embarassed saying that when people asked what her "blue" was. So only do that if you feel comfortable telling aged relatives about your knickers. Smiley smile

I saw a bride on Facebook earlier who had used a blue paperclip that she borrowed off someone just before the ceremony!

I've just put two blue paperclips in my camera bag in case they are needed!

I just ordered a bouquet locket (as my grandparents are unable to make the wedding due to health issues I am putting a photo of them in it) it has a single blue gem on it and a silver ribbon to tie onto my bouquet.

My something blue is my garter.

Have heard of brides having their wedding date sewn under the hem of their dress in blue which looks nice, or those "I do" blue stickers for under shoes.

    That's awesome Paula ❤️

But you know you'll HAVE to get them back before you leave, else it won't count as borrowed. Just....kinda.....stolen....

When I was organising this the first time round, Hitched told me categorically that the same item couldn't count for two - you had to have four separate items. I'd been bought sapphire jewellery which was going to be my blue and new, but when I was told it couldn't be both my MIL bought me a garter with a blue ribbon on it. This worked nicely as my something old was a small gold cross from a necklace which had belonged to my late grandmother and my mum sewed it onto the garter for me. I have no idea how I would have worn it otherwise! My borrowed was a hankie that had belonged to my other grandmother, which I returned to my parents after the event.
