Nottingham bride with little to no idea .........

Silverskye, 15 January, 2011 at 14:51 Posted on Planning 0 12

A quick introduction been with my OH for 12 years and at Christmas he finally gave in and got down on 1 knee. We have decided on Feb 25th 2012 as our wedding date and have been to look at some venues, and have even found 'the one' we have reserved the date and are going back with my parents next Sat for another look and to more than likely pay deposit. We are having a small intimate ceremony with 16 of us for the daytime bit and sit down meal. Then a bigger evening do / party for around 120 the same day at the same venue.

However after this is where i hit a stumbling block and have very little idea what we do next........ We have to choose a menu for sit down meal, buffet and drinks from the venue which is fine and i can manage. But i have no idea where to start with booking a registrar, colour schemes, table decorations, photographers, Florists, dresses, suits, cakes and all the other bits i have no doubt forgotten and need lots of inspiration/guidance/HELP!

Got the house to myself this afternoon so think i am going to sit and read through all the threads on here but if anyone can make any recommendations i would really appreciate it. xxx

    Step 1: Book The Registrar

    http://www.nottinghamcity.gov.uk/index.aspx?articleid=2341

Once you have your venue and Registrar booked, then look at the remainder of your suppliers. All the quality suppliers will get booked up early so once you have decided on who is going to do your hair, makeup, car, videography, photography, etc etc etc - GET THEM BOOKED!

On a very regular basis I see Bride and Grooms miss out on their preferred suppliers because they left it too late. Book your suppliers early to make sure YOU get who YOU want.

Next are the vital things like dress, shoes etc - I'll leave that side of things down to the experts on here who I am sure will be able to point you in the right direction ?

Oh and don't pay a deposit to the venue until you know the Registrar's are available!

Worse case scenario is that you book the venue, pay a substantial deposit only to find that the Registrars can't marry you that day as their staff are already fully booked. Can be expensive!

That's what we are here for ?

? at him finally giving in. Love the fact you are having such a intimate ceremony and then more people later on.

If you need a quote for a photographer then feel free to drop me an email on ****@*************.**.**

Have you got a favourite flower? What sort of look are you after? Do you want a theme e.g some ladies here are doing a vintage look etc

    Hi and congratulations!

Your not too far from me! (Leicestershire)

the first thing we did was to look at venues, when we had decided on the one we paid our deposit to finalise the booking. Next we got in touch with our local registry office and provisionally booked the registrars, as although you cannot finalise the booking until 12 months before, you can provisionally book the date and time you want, up to 2 years in advance. So i would recommend that as your next 'to do'.

As for colour schemes etc, i browsed on hitched and other sites, looking at colours that i liked and how i could bring this into a theme.

A good photographer is really important as all the best photographers get booked up really quickly!

Also as your wedding is february, look at the types of flowers that are in season during that time of year and decide whether you would like fresh or real flowers.

There are so many brilliant people on hitched that can help you along the way..

Good luck with your planning ?

Hi, I am a Nottingham bride too ? what venue have you been to look at? If you don't mind me asking. Make contact with the registrar to discuss possible dates etc and they are very good at answering your questions. I think once you have picked your colour scheme then everything else will fall into place. Definitely book your photos early. X

Awww congratulations on setting your wedding date! I was a February bride too (almost 3 years ago now) but we got married on the 29th! Next year will be our first official wedding anniversary. You're not too far away I'm in Derbyshire. As what has been said previously definitely get in touch with the Registrars to see if they are available if so provisionally book them before putting down the deposit on your chosen venue. Once the date is 12 months away you can then give notice!

For flowers - tulips are beautiful (that's what I had with Cala lilys, freesias & crocuses). If the venue don't provide a DJ try and get this sorted. There are a lot of wedding fayres in the Notts area so if you have a spare few hours - attend one to get some ideas. Some fayre's are good - I believe there is one at Holme Pierrpont in the next few weeks ?. Look forward to hearing all your plans.

Ooh the Carriage Hall is such a stunning venue - not been there as yet but can understand why you would put it on your top venue list! I've heard of the Wedding dress factory outlet but not been there, driven by it and have spoken to them on the phone and they seem really helpful. If you need any recommendations on photographers give me a shout ?
