**Now a Mrs and back with a flash**

bingowings, 1 October, 2011 at 18:43 Posted on Planning 0 19

Hi

I'm getting married next Saturday and the DJ who I have booked is avoiding me. I've tried to meet up with him for the last 6 weeks and he is always "too busy" as he is a full time job also. Then last week he went on holiday and assured me once he was back this week he would meet up but I've still not heard from him even though I've tried contacting him. Deep down I think he will turn up on the night but he just cant be bothered to meet up in the meantime. However, I have absolutely no guarantee until I see him on the night whether he will turn up. It's not really a risk I can take otherwise I will not rest until I see him.

Can anybody recommend anybody in Manchester at such short notice? Doesnt have to be super professional as it is just a small intimate venue.

Thanks!!

Hi Bingowings, We're using this guy, Mark:

    https://dnp.yolasite.com/

Not seen him DJ but he came with great recommendations from colleagues. He's based in Sale and has been helpful so far.

Hope you get something sorted!! It's not the sort of stress you want with 1 week to go!

What kind of DJ do you need? I actually run an agency (albeit House music) but I do know a lot of other types of DJ too.

Thanks so much for your recommendation Schiocco. I have just contacted him. I hope you dont mind my asking, but how much is he charging? We are on a tight budget but only need him for 4.5 hours.

    Thanks again x

    Hi Skyrocket

A non-cheese DJ (Abba, Wham, 60s, 70s) who plays a lot of old and current indie, bit of soft rock, pop/chart and R n B. We're not having speeches, first dances etc so not a typical wedding DJ per se, just someone who plays cool music. Am on a tight budget too! Do you know anybody who fits this bill?

    Thanks x

Hey, fairly certain he's £170 or £180. He's also does this as a second job so presume it's not his main income stream. We'll need him for 4 hours so pretty similar. xx

    Hi xtine88

Have now received a couple of quotes but still deciding what to do. Do they have a website i can look at? Are they full time DJs? It would be great if you could ask what their availability is for next Sat and approx how much it would cost for 4.5 hours.

    Thanks x

The curse of the casual DJ..

Did you pay a booking fee (or deposit) to the original DJ?

If not, this is often the the problem, more "casual" DJ's find better paying bookings and are able to drop bookings without any serious problems for them.

I get calls fairly frequently from people being let down and the problem is normally a very low price and usually only a mobile number/email for contact (no address or landline).

As a comparison, £150 in this area is less than the income from a Pub gig or 2hrs Kids party, both require no preparation and the DJ can simply turn up with Minimal gear and dress casually.

See a booking fee as a positive thing - by taking ~30% up front (this is about the norm), it show they are more serious about your booking. If they don't turn up, they need to pay that back (and so face some very upset people)

I charge a booking fee - its taken from the balance and allows me to know I have commitment from my client. I can then refuse further enquiries, knowing that I have a firm booking.

Bingowings, I hope you get the DJ you need. Lots of brides want non-cheesy, most DJ's will be able to play whatever you need (as long as you're clear in your requirements).

    If you get stuck, I would suggest calling a DJ colleague of mine, who is based in Denton;

    Hi Jason

Yes he is a casual DJ and we didnt pay a deposit. What you say is totally spot on. I wouldnt be able to track him down should he not show up on the night - not a risk I'm willing to take. I've already lost huge amounts of sleep over this and have a chest that hurts so much (anxiety)...

I did email your colleague but heard nothing back (although I only did it this morning). In the meantime I have made an appointment to see someone else and, to be honest, if he's half decent I will go ahead with the booking due to my wedding being 6 days away!

Your advice has been invaluable and I am very grateful for your time and help.

    Thanks again x

    Hi schiocco

I just wanted to say we used Mark and he was absolutely fantastic. He listened to all my needs, came up with lots of ideas which I had not even considered and was professional on the day. You really saved my life! Good luck with your wedding and I hope all your plans are going well.
